Pack your pooch – where to find Brisbane’s best dog-friendly cafes and bars

Pack your pooch – where to find Brisbane’s best dog-friendly cafes and bars

Dogs are so, so great. They are the most pure creatures on earth and we do not deserve them. Right, now that that’s out in the open we can get down to business – people with pooches are generally keen to take their furry mates everywhere they possibly can, but unfortunately the world we live in is sometimes cruel and prohibitive. It’s ruff (!), but we’ve taken paws (!!) and done the digging (!!!) to sniff out (!!!!) Brisbane’s best dog-friendly cafes and bars. From dedicated hashtags to pup-centric treats, these venues appreciate that it’s a dog’s life.

St Coco Cafe, Daisy Hill: Hawking speciality coffee and a salivation-inducing menu of bites, St Coco Cafe in Daisy Hill is a dog-friendly favourite among the masses for very good reasons. Along with human food, the spot boasts Hugo’s Ice Creamery ice-cream and Holly’s Homemade Doggy Treats for very good boys (and girls). We also strongly suggest that you have a gander at St Coco’s Instagram for adorable dog content.

Granddad Jacks Craft Distillery, Albion: Granddad Jack’s craft distillery and tasting room in Albion is known for its superb spirits – gin, whisky and vodka all share the shelf here – but did you know that Granddad Jack’s is dog-friendly too? Yep, you can bring your pooch along while you enjoy a bespoke G&T. This is livin’ Barry.

Kettle and Tin, Paddington: Boasting cheery vibes and hearty meals, Kettle and Tin bar and cafe is set in a cozy Queenslander in the heart of Paddington. Dogs aren’t left out here, and can sit comfortably at the front of the courtyard area, where they can lap up their own bowl of water.

The Triffid, Newstead: Known for drawing in killer live music acts, The Triffid is also the perfect place to bring your pup along for a pint. Take note – the Newstead establishment is dog-friendly from midday to 7:00 pm.

Neighbourhood Coffee Roasters, Albion: Neighbourhood Coffee Roasters is renowned for perking up patrons with speciality brews and scrumptious snacks, but did you also know that you can bring your dog along for a visit? Well, now you do and you’re welcome.

Sea Legs Brewing Co., Kangaroo Point: Set in a warehouse underneath Story Bridge is where you’ll find crackin’ craft brewery Sea Legs Brewing Co. So you can enjoy your sip alfresco, dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating area, which offers shady cover and water bowls for thirsty puppers.

Moonshine Coffee, Kangaroo Point: Charming Kangaroo Point coffee nook is constantly flooded with some of the cutest dogs in town due to its close proximity to Captain Burke Park. If you’re keen for a riverside walk followed by a top-notch brew with your four-legged boo, then this is the place to hit up.

Zero Fox, Teneriffe: Teneriffe locals and craft beer lovers are well aware that Zero Fox is one of the most charming bars on Vernon Terrace. It’s also well-known in the dog-lovers community as one of the friendliest places to take your hound if you’re looking to fill your belly.

Rabbit & Co., Coorparoo: Coorparoo residents were blessed with a brand-new cafe when Rabbit & Co opened on Chatsworth Road in the final days of 2020. Being dog-friendly, this quaint locale has seen its fair share of cute pups since then and if that’s not an excuse to visit, we don’t know what is.

Joey’s, Kangaroo Point: Killer views of The City? Check! Delicious brews and bites? Check! Dog-friendly? Check! Joey’s in Kangaroo Point seems to have it all, so bring your leashed mate along for a visit.

Felons Brewing Co., Brisbane City: Everyone is welcome at Felons Brewing Co. at Howard Smith Wharves – even dogs! Enjoy a cold one with a view and your best four-legged pal, too.

BrewDog, Murarrie: Scottish-born craft-beer brewery BrewDog is, as the name suggests, for the dogs. The Murarrie venue serves up craft beer for people as well as canines and the venue has even been known to throw pooch parties from time to time.

BrewDog, Fortitude Valley: Globe-spanning craft-beer titan Brewdog’s 400-seat, three-level Fortitude Valley venue is also a pooch-friendly pad for you and your pals to sit back and enjoy a pint. Each level is equipped with 20 taps, wines curated by Cork & Co and a kitchen punching out pub-style burgers, pizzas and wings.

Summa House, Fortitude Valley: Covering two expansive blocks on McLachlan Street, Summa House is a predominantly open-air space that is at its core a veritable party playground. Little did some know that this lively locale is also dog-friendly, so you can bring your pooch along whilst you enjoy a pint.

The Burrow, West End: Cosy hangout The Burrow has plenty of outdoor space for you to dine with your four-legged friends. Knock back frothy sips from Brew Dog and Moon Dog, whilst your beloved mutt devours some dog-friendly treats.

Little Black Pug Cafe, Mount Gravatt: Pug life! Louise and Josh Daly of Mount Gravatt coffee and brunch spot Little Black Pug are owners of Bowie and Mate – two beloved black pug cross-breeds. The duo created a pooch-friendly menu including puppycinos, sweet potato, liver, beetroot and carrot treats, and doggy ice-cream from Hugo’s Ice Creamery.

Hope and Anchor, Paddington: Where else in Brisbane can you feast on beer-braised chicken wings washed down with a pint of ale whilst your dog sits lovingly at your feet, gazing up at you with drooly chops just begging for a bite? Hope and Anchor’s gastropub vibes and outdoor bench seating make it a winner for dogfathers and dogmothers alike.

Fitz + Potts, Nundah: This Nundah favourite has pitched itself as a safe space for dogs and their humans since day dot, establishing a rep as a great place to go for a steamy jaffle and a cheeky tipple with dog/s in tow. The cutesy kitsch fit-out also makes it a prime location for very Instagram-worthy snaps.

Badminton Brew, Mount Gravatt: If you’re looking to score some serious brownie points with your fur-covered pal, then we suggest treating them to brunch at Badminton Brew. Not only can you chow down like royalty, your pup can also munch on handmade treats from Rustic Ruffs while they enjoy a puppycino. Honestly, sometimes owners deserve a good pat when they have an idea as good as this.

Sassafras, Paddington: As far as dog-friendly bars and cafes go, Sassafras has all bases covered. Your fur-babies are more than welcome to join you here in the large backyard garden area. Day or night, this is a prime locale for dog-lovers.

The Scratch Bar, Milton: BYO dogs and food is a pretty sweet deal, and that’s exactly what you get to do at The Scratch. This Milton bar’s extremely lax pooch policy is a heckin’ godsend – bring your furry friends along to keep you company as you sip on regularly rotating craft brews.

Mickle Pickle, Tingalpa: Conveniently located 300 metres away from a dog park, Mickle Pickle is a ray of breakfast and brunch sunshine. The astro-turfed outdoor area has plenty of hitching posts and water bowls for pups, and the staff will happily partake in cuddles and tummy scratches for all four-legged patrons.

The Gardens Club, Brisbane City: Tucked away in the City Botanic Gardens near the Riverstage, the outdoor area of The Gardens Club is always teeming with pooches. There’s plenty of space on the terrace and in the courtyard for dogs of all sizes, with the added bonus of the Gardens at your doorstep for pre- or post-brunch walkies.

Black Lab Coffee, Tarragindi: Any cafe with a resident pooch for whom the establishment was named is bound to be dog-friendly – it just makes sense. Black Lab Coffee’s four-legged mascot Audrey can often be seen lounging on the doorstep, and one look at their social media will give you an inkling for how they feel about dogs.

Goodness Gracious Cafe, Graceville: The leafy streets of Graceville are heaven for dogs. In addition to the suburb’s lush parks and picturesque promenades, Graceville’s Goodness Gracious Cafe is a top-notch dog-friendly cafe. Pups are always welcome here, with plenty of space to lounge about while licking up a tub of doggy ice-cream.

Quincy’s Bar and Cafe, Grange: Whether you’re swinging through for a coffee or settling in for a wine and some charcuterie, Quincy’s is accommodating for all comers. Outdoor seating offers a sunny spot for dogs and their humans, so don’t hesitate to grab the leash and bring your bud next time you venture out.

The Wickham, Fortitude Valley: Having a beer with your best mate can be tricky when they can’t drink because they’re literally a canine, but at least you can bring them along to the beer garden at The Wickham. The bright astro turf, cute decor and fancied-up pub food make it a great all-rounder for you and your dog.

Green Beacon Brewing Co, Teneriffe: ‘Dogs in pubs’ are three words that just sound really delightful together. What could be sweeter than knocking back a fresh Green Beacon frothie and enjoying food truck favourites with your best four-legged mate by your side? Dogs aren’t just banished to a post outside, either – you can bring them into the venue on a lead.

Todd & Pup, Moorooka: If it’s got pup in the name, you know the love for dogs is real. Todd & Pup is a killer spot to take your pooch – while you munch on a fresh, seasonal breakfast your furry mate can cop a handmade natural dog biscuit from Barking Bickies.

Revel Brewing Co., Bulimba: Bulimba’s main drag of Oxford Street is chock-full with dog-friendly outposts, but if you’re after a leisurely beer-garden vibe then Revel Brewing Co. should be your first port of call. Every Sunday afternoon the brewery hosts Dog Days events, with free dog biscuits for pooches that come along for a session.

Brown Dog Cafe, Woolloongabba: Another giveaway namesake, the Brown Dog Cafe is no stranger to a bit of canine-friendly action. Chow down on a Big Dog’s Breakfast with all the trimmings while your dog gets showered in love and affection from passers-by.

This bustling Caxton Street bar has craft beer for days, a mouth-watering selection of eats and a dedicated vegan menu to boot – all-around animal lovers. There is ample street seating where you and your fur-baby are both welcome to hang.

Ballistic Beer Co., Salisbury: There’s nothing more wholesome than sinking a schooner with your schnauzer or a tinnie with your terrier, so Ballistic Beer Co.’s brewery and cellar door in Salisbury is the perfect spot to spend some quality time with your two-legged and four-legged mates.

All Inn Brewing Co, Banyo: Was there ever a more delightful combination than ice-cold beers, rockin’ food trucks and a dog-friendly vibe? This Banyo gem has these things in abundance, with the industrial-style space making for a perfect pit stop for you and your doggo.

Lokal & Co, West End: Man, the Scandinavians have really got it together. If Ikea and progressive politics weren’t enough, the proof is in Lokal & Co., the West End eatery and bar with a distinct Nordic influence. Take to the sunny astro-turfed courtyard out the front and feast on delicious fare with a cheeky twist.

Suburban Social, Chapel Hill: One thing dogs know how to do extremely well is to live their best lives, which is easy to do at a place like Suburban Social. The Chapel Hill hang exudes friendly and laid-back vibes, boasting a spacious courtyard that is ideal for sunshine brews and chews with your furry friend. Warning – the food here may induce serious puppy-dog eyes and drooling.

Slipstream Brewing Company, Yeerongpilly: Slipstream’s cellar door has turned into a local hub for brew lovers to knock back a tipple or two. What good would a community hangout be if dogs weren’t allowed? Thankfully the Slipstream crew are more than accommodation for pooches, so bring your furry friend along next time you need to top up your growler.

Alcove Cafe, Wilston: Since 2012, Wilston’s Alcove Cafe and Deli has been a sweet spot for brunch hunters and coffee cravers, but we can’t forget the furrier members of our family. Pups are welcome to join while you snack and sip!

Saabi on Manson, Hendra: Always accepting of four-legged friends is Hendra’s Saabi on Manson. With outside seating areas and a fenced lawn on site, there’s plenty of room for a comfortable doggy day out. Also, Saabi on Manson’s Instagram page is a treasure trove of adorable pooch pics – well worth a follow.
