Delivery on demand – DoorDash makes its Brisbane debut today

Brisbane's food-delivery scene has scored another high-profile entrant this week with the arrival of US-born juggernaut DoorDash. Following on from its launch down south last year, the vibrant red-coloured courier service is linking up with loads of local eateries, looking to help them connect with a larger customer base and navigate the post-restriction landscape.

When it comes to the biggest names in the food-delivery game, DoorDash stands atop the heap as one of the most widely used services across the United States and Canada with more than 300,000 businesses signed up to the service across both countries. Last year DoorDash launched in Sydney and Melbourne to a huge frenzy, its arrival splash making ripples across the country’s already competitive food-delivery scene. Now it’s Brisbane’s turn – DoorDash officially launches in our city today, Thursday June 11. The DoorDash team is wasting no time making its presence felt, with hundreds of restaurants already signed on to the service before launch. The likes of Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers, Red Hook, Taro’s Ramen and Brooklyn Depot are among the service’s first wave of eatery partners, while large franchises such as Guzman y Gomez, McDonald’s and Subway are also on board.

DoorDash is debuting with a few launch initiatives to help its restaurant partners make the most of the service and help them recover in the post-coronavirus period. To start, DoorDash will be taking zero commission on sales made via web links embedded on a restaurant’s own website until the end of 2020, and will also offer free delivery for local restaurant orders every Saturday in June. Additionally, orders from select restaurants will receive ten-percent off from June 16 to June 30, and DoorDash will donate one meal to Foodbank Queensland for every delivery made between launch and June 30. The app will also launch with some handy features, such as a function for pick-up (users can collect meals at no extra cost) and a group-ordering component making large orders simple to arrange. Expect to see plenty of DoorDash’s red-attired couriers (affectionately named Dashers) making drops across town from today onwards, and keep an eye out for further state-wide expansions planned for later in the year.
