Since the 1950s, Ekka’s iconic strawberry sundaes have been a beloved event staple. So you can spoil yourself to a scoop of the icy indulgence this year, Ekka has announced there will be a pop-up drive-through outlet at Sideshow Alley as well as a stall on King Street from August 14–22, serving up your favourite Ekka treats from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm every day. The carnival snacks don’t stop at just sundaes – both pop-up stalls will also be slinging dagwood dogs and Bertie Beetle showbags. If you’re not keen to brave the winter chill to score yourself a taste of this berry-good dairy delight, then you can order a limited-edition DIY strawberry sundae pack to have a go at making the sweet stuff at home.
For more than 30 years, all proceeds from the strawberry sundaes have been donated directly to the Prince Charles Hospital Foundation and The Common Good. Although a lot has changed in the past two years, this is one part of the event that won’t be changing. Keeping with the feel-good factor, every ice-cream will go towards the The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation to aid medical research.
