As we well know (and appreciate tremendously), our doctors, nurses and medical professionals are currently working around the clock to combat COVID-19. These tireless efforts, however, come at a cost – often simple everyday tasks, like having time to cook (or even thinking about groceries), get pushed to the side. Concurrently, our hospitality industry is seriously struggling and needs out support. Enter, Feed the Frontline.
Feed the Frontline is being championed by Brisbane cooking-class instructor Fleur Sharpe of Cook Live Love, based on a similar initiative that was launched in Los Angeles. The idea pairs together two industries that need our support during this crisis – you make a donation via the GoFundMe page, which not only sends a meal to a frontline worker, but also helps keep a local restaurant open. It’s a win-win. Donations are converted into meal vouchers, which will be distributed in consultation with Brisbane’s hospitals to those who need them most, so when they finish a very long shift, they don’t need to cook. So far a number of local restaurants have jumped on board the initiative, including e’cco bistro, The Wolfe, Proof BBQ & Booze, The Spaghetti House Trattoria and more, and in a matter of days Feed the Frontline has already raised more than $20,000.
