Good Pair Days matches delectable drops with thirsty drinkers

Meet the indispensable new ally you need in your drinking team before you open that next bottle of wine.

Like the trusted chum who knows which job, house or potential love interest would be good for you (and which would definitely not be), Good Pair Days is the ultimate matchmaker and confidante in your wine-supping journey. Imagine having a personal sommelier at your fingertips – or better yet, built into your phone – to ensure that every purchase is matched to your personal palate. Not only will they help guide your decision-making process, but also expand your horizons and introduce you to little-known wines you wouldn’t normally choose for yourself. Led by a three-time Australian Sommelier of the Year, the Good Pair Days team of wine hunters is committed to discovering the best drops for your budget and taste, while rejecting any sense of pretence or wine snobbery.

The Good Pair Days journey began a few years ago when wine novice Tom Walenkamo enlisted award-winning sommelier Banjo Harris Plane and tech expert Beto Moreira to combine their respective expert wine knowledge with advanced tech wizardry to offer a curated monthly wine subscription for drinkers of all ranks. Following a $2 million funding round late last year, the team has been working tirelessly behind the scenes to develop a new personalisation engine, launch iPhone and Android apps, expand the wine range and price points on offer, remove all plastic and tissue paper from their packaging and replace it with 100-percent biodegradable protective inserts. The result is a customised wine-discovery journey that kicks off with a palate profile quiz and allows the team to learn more about your wine preferences with every bottle you rate. You can choose to interact as much or as little as you like with your monthly wine mixtape – read the tasting notes, take the taste test challenge, follow the food pairings and try the recipes, or simply sup that wine and move on. Of course you also have the power to choose your own wines, amend your subscription, blacklist grape types and browse the wines on offer at any time (think categories like Italian Stallions, Vegan and Wines Your Dad Would Love). Head online and start expanding your palate here.
