Less than a week ago, Brisbane’s tea scene changed for good. Heere Tea opened its first Brisbane franchise location in the heart of Sunnybank – scoring a prime position in Sunnybank Plaza – and immediately experienced a huge influx of patrons eager to treat their tastebuds to one of the world’s most intriguing food crazes in recent memory. As one of Brisbane’s first dedicated cheese tea cafes, it is stirring up a good amount of buzz in a short space of time. We know what you’re about to ask – what does drinking cheese tea feel and taste like? Well, for some beverages it’s like sipping on a thickshake depending on the tea you choose – for example, the blended fruits and cheese make for a more substantial consistency. As for the taste, well, it’s a little bit sweet, a little bit savoury. The cheese offsets the tannins in conventional teas and for fruit teas it mellows out the sweetness. Let’s just say that if you like cheesecake, you’ll love this.
At Heere Tea, it really is easy being cheesy. A huge range of teas can be topped with either full cream or low fat cheese, including green, black, oolong and pu’er tea, and fruit-based concoctions like watermelon, grapefruit, pineapple, mango and mixed berry (all fruit is locally sourced). If you can’t get down with the extra dairy, cheese-free hot teas are available, and iced milk teas with flavours such as Oreo, brulee and bubble milk are also up for grabs. Seasonal and limited-edition flavours made from fresh ingredients will pop in and out of the menu, and a dessert offering will also be implemented for the perfect post-dinner treat.
Heere Tea is now open at Sunnybank Plaza. For more information, find Heere Tea in the Stumble Guide.
