Pavement Whispers: the Julius and Beccofino team set to open a new Italian restaurant in Newstead

It goes without saying that if you live in Brisbane and you love Italian food, you're very well acquainted with Beccofino and Julius Pizzeria. For almost two decades, Beccofino has pleased our palates with its comforting menu of Italian classics in Teneriffe, while over in South Brisbane, Julius has consistently satisfied our woodfired pizza cravings for more than seven years. The team has just announced that this year will see them bring to life an entirely new Italian concept in Newstead, due to open in mid-2022.

The yet-to-be-named restaurant is the latest venture from Cordell Khoury and Paolo Biscaro, who have been the driving force behind Beccofino, Julius and Bar Brutus. While there has been a certain level of crossover between their current restaurants, the boys have assured us that this casual Italian eatery will be an entirely new concept. The 120–140 seater is set to be located at the base of Cavcorp’s Long Island development on Longland Street in Newstead, joining the soon-to-open Baker D. Chirico and Evra to form a new anticipated food precinct.

Cordell and Paolo have once again teamed up with head chef Anthony Nicastro, who will be overseeing the menu of casual Italian eats. The Newstead restaurant will not be a pizzeria, but rather an Italian eatery with a woodfired oven. While specific menu details are still under wraps, we have been told to expect an abundance of handmade pasta, lots of grilled items, a couple of pizzas and woodfired breads.

We’ll bring you more details when we hear them!
