Jocelyn’s Provisions settles into new digs on Ada Lane

For most of its existence, Jocelyn’s Provisions has always had a presence on James Street. Even during the temporary displacement of its long-running flagship during construction of The Calile Hotel, Jocelyn's kept the flame alive at its pop-up space near Gerard's Bar. With construction now complete, the famed purveyor of mouth-watering baked goods is back in its rightful place, reaping the rewards of patience as the first tenant to open on James Street’s new foodie strip Ada Lane. Friday March 8 saw Jocelyn’s Provisions open its revamped James Street spot, showcasing its decadent treats and savoury snacks from within a chic shopfront.

The Calile’s arrival on James Street has done much more than offer a luxurious spot for travellers to rest their heads – it has heralded a new age of dining for the popular promenade. Despite the inconveniences necessitated by the building’s construction, The Calile’s development offered James Street mainstay Jocelyn’s Provisions the chance to be a part of the precinct’s overhaul. Following the hotel’s grand opening this past September, work started to progress on an adjacent laneway precinct connecting James Street to Wandoo Street, where several street-level tenancies would house new eateries. Jocelyn’s Provisions is the first retailer to open its doors on the strip, opening a gorgeous shopfront mere weeks after debuting its permanent Camp Hill location. Ensconced in the familiar white brick and structural concrete of the Richards and Spence-designed micro-precinct, Jocelyn’s Provisions’ new shop boasts an interior palette of deep greens and timber, as well as a sizeable gold-trimmed treat cabinet housing a salivation-inducing array of cupcakes, slices and tarts.

In addition to all of the crowd favourites, the Jocelyn’s Provisions crew is introducing a few tasty bits and pieces that’ll surely rev up your hunger. The Ada Lane shop will soon be serving up a coffee from Fortitude Roasters (a blend made exclusively for Jocelyn’s on Ada Lane and Newstead’s Short Order) for those craving a pick-me-up to go with their sugary hit. Also, anyone seeking simple takeaway lunchtime fare on James Street can get a suitable bite from Jocelyn’s, which is hawking pies, sausage rolls, house-made sandwiches and its famous breads from Monday to Friday. The freshness won’t stop there – we’re hearing that new products will be gradually introduced to the range now that Jocelyn’s has settled in to its crib. In other dessert news, Gelato Messina will be also opening its second Brisbane location on Ada Lane before March is over, meaning there’s never been a better time to have a sweet tooth.
