Anyone that considers themselves a Brisbane sushi expert will tell you that Ku-O in Sunnybank is one of the best spots to get your fix, with patrons travelling across town just to get a taste of the fare. Well, those that don’t live in Brisbane's far south will be stoked to hear that Ku-O now boasts another location in Woolloongabba, slicing and serving up a wide array of fresh fish across its range of sushi and sashimi, plus plenty of other Japanese eats.

More than any other cuisine, sushi and sashimi benefits the most from being served fresh and made with high-quality ingredients. It’s raw fish, after all! If you’ve ever been let down by some bad sushi, we feel you. We’ve all been there. When we’re craving some sush, we only want the best and from all reports Ku-O is the spot to get it. After winning over Sunnybank diners, the establishment has expanded closer to the city, bringing with it its impressive range of Japanese fare. At the base of Trafalgar Lane is where you’ll find Ku-O’s newest location. The brains behind Ku-O place chief importance on three areas – great service, quality ingredients and a fair price – and we’re inclined to believe that they make good on all three with Ku-O at the Gabba.

If you want to see how seriously the team at Ku-O takes sushi, watch Ku-O Woolloongabba’s award-winning executive chef Takashi Nami as he expertly carves up the sushi, sashimi and nigiri to order – offering some kitchen theatre that you’re unlikely to see elsewhere. The team sources the freshest fish possible from local markets, at any given time having seven kinds of fish on hand for its menu. The selection is ever-changing, giving patrons the opportunity to experience a variety of flavour every time they dine. Once you’ve had your fill of sashimi, cast your eye over the rest of the menu – it’s extensive! Sink your teeth into freshly grilled kushiyaki, tempura, chicken katsu, donburi, udon, omusoba, yakiudon and hot pots. Making your way through all of this is thirsty work, which is why you’d do well to order a drink or two to accompany your dish. Ku-O offers an exemplary list of fruity and dry sakes, as well as imported beer from Suntory, Sapporo, Kirin, Yebisu, Kyoto Beer and Echigo, Japanese whiskies and Australian wines. If it’s hot out, cool off with one of Ku-O’s signature frappes – matcha, lychee, taro and chocolate flavours are available.

Ku-O at the Gabba is now open for lunch and dinner. If you are seeking opening hours and contact details, check out the Stumble Guide.
