Lord of the Fries – a concept started by Mandy and Mark Koronczyk as a chip-centric food truck in the mid-2000s – has transformed into a plant-based powerhouse over the past decade. The Melbourne-born meat-free concept has cornered the market in vegan-friendly fast food, growing to boast more than 20 locations across Australia and four more across the Tasman. As Lord of the Fries stores proliferated across Australia’s southern states, Queenslanders waited patiently for their turn before scoring its first outlet in Surfers Paradise in 2017. Two years on and Brisbane’s plant-based community has finally been rewarded with a Lord of the Fries location of its own – a cosy kiosk situated in the heart of Fortitude Valley. Boasting its signature subway tile and street-art adorned interior, Lord of the Fries Fortitude Valley is perfectly positioned to cater to the breakfast crowd, lunchtime rush and very-late-night feeding frenzy.
Under the ownership of hospitality veteran Jade Sharp, Lord of the Fries’ Brisbane debut is introducing its menu of plant-based eats to a whole new set of mouths. It all starts with the namesake, with four kinds of fries (classic, chunky, shoestring and sweet potato) available alongside 12 sauces (Euro mayo, aioli garlic mayo, spicy chilli, cheese and gravy, smoky southern BBQ) for dipping. Next up is the burgers, with eight kinds (original, spicy, chick’n, phish – to name a few) loaded with delicious and succulent plant-based fillings. If hot dogs are more your thing, Lord of the Fries has three of those to try, while sides such as vegan nuggets, onion rings and mac’n’cheese balls will fill up any gaps. Early birds can swing by and nab a grab-n-go breakfast, with the likes of vegan egg and fakin’ bacon, hash brown and patty, and BLT brekkie buns up for grabs.
