Brisbane’s love affair with Mexican food – particularly tacos – is well documented. As the city’s culinary scene gradually fosters a greater appreciation for taqueria culture, a wider range of taco varieties (from crispy birria style to entirely plant-based options) are beginning to appear. Baja on Brunswick Street in The Valley is an eatery that has helped champion the Cali-Mex style of cuisine found along Mexico’s northwestern peninsula, and its fish taco has quickly become a popular signature item on its menu. The eatery’s new taco-centric concept, Los Tacos by Baja, sees the crew expanding its repertoire, paying homage to tacos with a special menu dedicated to Mexico’s street-food staple.
Los Tacos is taking over Baja every Tuesday night from 5:00 pm tonight, Tuesday May 25, and is also popping up at the Mount Gravatt Street Food Market on Saturdays from 4:00–9:00 pm. A tight menu will feature four tacos – pork carnitas, fried chicken tacos, beef barbacoa and vegetarian tres frijoles (beans) – available for $6 each. Snacks such as Mexican street corn, fresh ceviche and guacamole will also be on hand for those looking to indulge in an early-week feast, while Baja’s always-phenomenal margarita menu offers plenty of sipping material to help wash down every bite. Guests are free to walk in or reserve a spot via Baja’s booking system.
