The round-up: Brisbane’s best multi-purpose event spaces

Whether you’re walking down the aisle, celebrating a milestone birthday or another massive life moment, you don’t want the memory tarnished by the fact your location didn’t match your dream. Brisbane is flush with top-notch function and event spaces, all of which are perfectly suited to housing just about any function you can envision. We’re not talking about the back room at your local pub here, we’re listing Brisbane’s biggest multi-purpose event venues. If you’ve got a big occasion on the horizon, check out this list and see if it’s got what you need.

Lightspace, Fortitude Valley: When it comes to ideal event spaces, flexibility is key. Fortitude Valley’s Lightspace is a unique warehouse venue that boasts plenty of room to move, and opportunities to host all kinds of events, from soirees to seminars. The venue can be booked as one large room, two distinct internal spaces or even subdivided into smaller areas if desired. Lightspace boasts polished-concrete floors, vintage and contemporary furniture, a range of catering partners, and also comes with projectors, sound systems and a top-notch support team.

Newstead Studios, Newstead: Hailed as a co-creation space, there’s more than meets the eye at Newstead Studios. This architecturally designed venue is one part creative hub and one part event space. It’s the latter that draws our attention here, and this restored warehouse has a unique configuration of nooks for corporate and private events. On the ground floor sits the gallery and adjoining garden terrace. The neighbouring Arch Room can host 20-seated guests, and is perfect for intimate dining experiences centred around a four-piece modular oak dining table. The striking photography studio on level one, which features high ceilings, exposed beams, sky lights and a rustic vibe, is the perfect blank canvas for a chic event of your choosing.

Mirra, Fortitude Valley: Head down Bridge Street in The Valley and pretty soon you’ll come across a pair of handcrafted, gold-trimmed doors. You’ve reached Mirra, one of Brisbane’s finest event spaces. If attention to detail is what you’re after, you’ll love Mirra’s interior, which boasts ornate mosaics, vaulted ceilings, oriental-themed chandeliers, a rose-gold mirrored bar, leather chesterfield loungers and Art Deco light fixtures. Rounded off with a custom menu crafted by executive chef Allen Edger, Mirra has set itself as a perfect spot for weddings, corporate events and private gatherings.

The Refinery, Newstead: One of the newest venues on the block is Newstead’s The Refinery, which comes from the team behind beloved Rogue Bistro. The space is housed in a renovated panel beater’s warehouse, and comes equipped with a suite of amenities to help facilitate a seamless event, including long timber tables, gorgeous crockery and glassware, a PA system, projector capabilities, wait staff, event manager and coordination services. Wedding and event packages also include options for canapes, grazing tables, set menus, family-style feasts, drinks and wedding cakes.

The Gardens Club, Brisbane City: Nestled within the leafy surrounds of the City Botanic Gardens, The Gardens Club is a lush treasure for anyone looking to add a bit of greenery to their big event. Just a short walk from the Brisbane CBD, The Gardens Club can host 80 guests seated and 150 cocktail style across The Main House, the Inner Deck and the Terrace, with food and drink prepared in house by on-site chefs, while menu options can also be provided by notable catering crew AlFreshco.

Bromley Room #2 at West Village, West End: If you fancy a bit of art infused into your next event, we recommend having a peek inside The Bromley Room #2 at West Village. The venue is nestled in amongst the walls of West End’s iconic Peter’s Ice-Cream Factory, boasting a lush vista overlooking West Village’s parkland The Common. The space itself has a New York-inspired warehouse feel that oozes effortless style, taking up 400 square metres that are filled with the eye-popping art of David Bromley and his co-collaborator (and wife) Yuge. The Bromley Room #2 can accommodate small, medium and larger events, with two exclusive caterers to choose from and space for 120 patrons for a cocktail-style event.

Loyal Hope of the Valley, Fortitude Valley: The Lightspace team is double dipping in the event space stakes, recently adding Art Deco space Loyal Hope of the Valley to its portfolio. The venue’s picture-perfect white-timber facade houses an interior space that has been painstakingly curated to reflect a vintage feel with modern convenience. The original polished timber floorboards have been brought back to life, with huge timber sash windows drenching the space in swashes of natural light. An emerald-green-tiled Art Deco-inspired bar, polished furniture and breathtaking outdoor vistas showcasing the stone facade of St Patrick’s Church also combine to make this one of Brisbane’s finest event spaces worth taking notice of.

The Houses at Howard Smith Wharves, Brisbane City: If you’ve been down to the Howard Smith Wharves recently, you’ve no doubt walked past the precinct’s mammoth function halls. These are certainly some amazing event spaces to utilise, but if you’re after something a bit smaller, cast your eyes towards The Houses. These four bespoke event spaces are artfully designed to cater for various functions and occasions. Bougainvillea House boasts a wrap-around veranda with elevated views overlooking the Story Bridge and city skyline, while Greenhouse is an inner-city escape with interior and alfresco dining spaces. The smaller of the four – Citrus House and Wisteria House – are ideal for intimate events such as boardroom-style meetings, private bride’s retreat and bespoke private dining.

The Lushington, Woolloongabba: In the heart of Woolloongabba sits lovingly restored 1920s Art Deco stunner The Lushington. Once home to a branch of The Royal Antediluvian Order of ‘Buffaloes’, The Lushington is now utilised to host everything from weddings, corporate events, workshops, music events and art shows. The venue featured four-metre-high ceilings, timber dining tables, black velvet Art Deco lounges, an outdoor courtyard and a 400-patron capacity.

Elements Collective, Fortitude Valley: Elements Collective is a fully renovated urban warehouse in The Valley, priding itself on its versatility and suitability for various occasions. Natural lighting, polished wooden floors, industrial fittings and full-length mirrors help set the scene, with a capacity large enough to seat 150 patrons or host 200 for a cocktail style event. Elements Collective can be furnished as you wish with help from a preferred stylist, and is open to events such as product launches, corporate functions, birthdays, weddings and even dance classes.
