The Weekend Edition - Sleep In. Slow Down. Enjoy.

The Weekend Series: five of the best food shows to kick-start your hunger

Forget My Kitchen Rules, Huey’s Cooking Adventures and Ready Steady Cook – when we refer to food shows we’re talking about the cream of the crop. When we sit down to watch chefs at play, we not only want insights into the world of fine dining – we want food porn of epic proportions. We want to drool. Thankfully there are a bunch of shows out there that can cater to our insatiable food lust. Sit back, relax and take in the culinary beauty that these shows have to offer.

Chef’s Table
When it comes to detailed insight into the lives of the world’s best chefs and the inner workings of their restaurants, it doesn’t get much better than Chef’s Table. Renowned for its incredibly thorough approach to its subject matter, Chef’s Table is not only incredibly informative but it looks beautiful. Each episode is dedicated to a different chef and the award-winning restaurant that they operate out of. Restaurants from around the world are featured, from America and Italy to Argentina, Thailand, Mexico City and Sweden. Season three of the show is set to premiere this month, giving us six new episodes and plenty of perfectly plated food to ogle. Catch it on Netflix.

Fuck, That’s Delicious
Pardon the French, but if you are after a unique take on the world of food then Fuck, That’s Delicious is a must watch. World-renowned rapper (and former chef) Action Bronson is the host of the show, which sees Action and his entourage take in local tastes and flavours while on tour. Blending high levels of street-wise sass, an eclectic list of destinations and a great amount of knowledge on behalf of Action Bronson, Fuck, That’s Delicious is an entertaining way to experience the food culture of distant countries through the eyes of one of the world’s most passionate foodies. Watch the show on VICELAND.

Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown
Move over Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver – when it comes to food personalities the biggest name in the game is now Anthony Bourdain. After earning a following through his work on Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations and by penning some bestselling books about his work in the culinary industry, Anthony Bourdain has become a household name around the world. His latest show, Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown sees the chef travel to distant corners of the world, uncovering and trying lesser-known cuisines and cultures. Watch the show on Netflix.

Cooked
Acclaimed food writer Michael Pollan has put a different spin on the prototypical food documentary with his own series, Cooked. Deciding to try his hand at the culinary arts, Michael has decided to document how the art of cooking has shaped the world, and what role food plays in the evolution of culture. Each episode is themed around one of four key natural elements – fire, water, air and earth – examining the primal nature of cooking and how traditions are formed and passed along over generations. Watch it now in Netflix.

Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives
Even if you don’t know Guy Fieri by name, you absolutely have to be familiar with his signature look. White spiky hair, white goatee and a penchant for leather wristbands – freakin’ iconic stuff. A bona fide veteran of food entertainment, the restaurateur, author, game show host and television personality has been on our screens for more than a decade, and his show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (also known as Triple D) is one of his most popular projects. This series sees Guy travelling across the world, stopping in at various independent restaurants to check out the flavours of the region. If you are after some good old-fashioned food porn, look no further than Triple D. Watch it on SBS On Demand

Honourable mentions: The Great British Bake Off, The Mind of a Chef, Eat St.
