Towards the tail end of 2015, we collectively swooned over a gorgeous cafe that opened on the outskirts of leafy Bardon. Neighbourhood Coffee Roasters charmed the pants off locals with its revitalised corner store location and some serious java smarts. Coffee fiends will be frothing to know that Neighbourhood Coffee Roasters has opened up a spacious new cafe-meets-roaster, taking its roasting operations from Sumner Park to a prime central spot at Albion Fine Trades. A cafe portion mixes rustic touches with top of the line coffee facilities, including a counter for nitro taps and a Juggler Milk Tap system from Six Simple Machines. Seating extends into a courtyard where patrons can recline around wicking garden beds where herbs will grow for use in the menu.
If you couldn’t already tell, the team at Neighbourhood Coffee Roasters takes caffeine seriously. If you are a specialty coffee purist, then all we can say is ‘welcome home’. Japanese iced filter, pour-over, cold-drip and trinity brew varieties are available, as well as taps pouring cold-brew lemongrass and rose nitro tea and single-origin nitro coffee. Neighbourhood’s Albion house blend ‘The Merc’ – named as such as tribute to the location’s past as a Mercedes-Benz workshop – boasts a buttery character and a great balance of Ethiopian and Guatemalan bean varietals. Neighbourhood Coffee Roasters Albion’s food menu is smaller than its Bardon sibling, but hungry patrons will still find plenty to enjoy. The popular selection of avocado and toast varieties has come across, offering our favourite kind of greens topped with the likes of Korean chilli paste, beetroot and sunflower and sesame and pomegranate. If you are still feeling peckish, a snack cabinet is filled with croissants, delicious sandwiches, lemon coconut blondies and flourless carrot cake.
