Seek out No Standing – the new hidden coffee spot dispensing Single O brews on Eagle Lane

Brisbane City's coffee scene continues to get stronger with the arrival of No Standing, a cloistered caffeinery from the crew behind other inner-city spots Public and Weekday. Officially opening on Tuesday August 1, No Standing is sequestered just off the beaten track on Eagle Lane, where it will dispense espresso and filter brews as well as savoury pastries. Read on to learn more about the no-pretension joint, plus how you can score free coffee during its opening week!

Brisbane’s inner-city coffee offering is already pretty diverse in terms of scale and style, but any caffeine-craving commuter will assure you that there’s always room for more. Jack Kortlang and Dae Kang would probably be inclined to agree. The duo’s takeover of The City’s caffeine scene has progressed at a speedy clip this year with the opening of Public Cafe and Weekday (plus the forecasted September launch of Gather Bistro). The team’s latest metropolitan manoeuvre sees Jack and Dae continuing their trend of opening small dispensaries in secret nooks and lobbies around the city centre. No Standing, a grungy gettin’ place located beneath the Eagle Lane entrance to the Central Plaza annex, might the crew’s cosiest venture to date. When Jack and Dae signed on to open Weekday inside the building’s lobby, they were also invited to commandeer a cosy laneway space outside, presenting a tempting two-for-one opportunity that they couldn’t ignore. Whereas Weekday boasts a contemporary sheen courtesy of its lobby locale, No Standing’s street-side setup – an industrial-style kiosk embedded into the concrete foundations of its skyscraper home – is decidedly more informal and, as such, Jack and Dae have decided to lean into the relaxed and informal nature of No Standing’s civic centrality. “You can see by the stickers on the wall,” says Jack, referring to the colourful Fourcasters-designed posters that double as a signpost for No Standing. “We want to make coffee without the cockiness that can sometimes come with specialty coffee.”

No Standing’s coffee service isn’t limited by its small footprint. A La Marzocco Strada AV and twin Anfim grinders are tasked with the bulk of the coffee dispensing, with Single O’s Killer Bee on deck for milk-based coffee and Reservoir for black brews. Single O is also adding a batch tap system for expeditious pours of the good stuff. No Standing’s beverage fridge is stocked with sips from Burleigh Drinks Co., while a small pastry cabinet will be frequently filled with savoury danishes from Albion’s Farine & Co (operators of Doughcraft). No Standing is looking to make a great first impression this week with a string of killer deals that’ll entice any coffee lover. Opening day will see the dispensary team up with Oatly to give away free oat-milk coffees, before backing up the day after to give away free coffees all Wednesday. On Thursday, the crew from Single O will stop by to give away free batch brews dispensed from the newfangled tap system. On Friday, No Standing will be selling $3 virgin Mary cans from Burleigh Drinks Co.

No Standing opens officially on Tuesday August 2. Hop over to the Stumble Guide for operating hours and social links.
