West Village welcomes nodo’s new doughnut-dispensing kiosk

nodo almost needs no introduction. The concept's doughnuts are widely praised and its cafes are counted among some of Brisbane's busiest brunch spots. Any time the nodo brand expands to a new part of the city, locals flock to get a fix of its gluten-free treats and ever-expanding offering of nourishing nosh. In good news for West End residents, nodo has just opened its new grab-and-go location at West Village, serving its killer range of cake-like confections alongside a tasty range of takeaway eats.

There was a lively scene at West Village earlier today, Friday September 16, as a crowd of doughnut die-hards turned out en masse to celebrate the opening of nodo’s newest location at the Peters Lane retail precinct. A steady line snaked from the counter of the kiosk-style outpost, which sits snugly a short distance from the entry of Harris Farm Markets, with patrons patiently waiting for their turn to nab a treat or two with a coffee to boot. You’d think that doughnut doyenne Kate Williams would be used to the frenzy that a new nodo opening stirs, but even with a sizeable portfolio under her belt, the feeling to adding a new member to the family never diminishes. “It’s coming up on eight years. This is our sixth location,” says Kate as she surveys the morning rush. “It’s a little bit emotional to see that following and demand.” This latest addition takes cues from nodo’s grab-and-go location on Elizabeth Street, more than its full-service siblings in Newstead, South Bank, Camp Hill and Hawthorne. The cosy corner kiosk, designed by Cameron & Co Architecture and built by Unita, is designed to lure the eye of West Village wanderers – many of whom will no doubt be swayed by the sight of a cabinet filled with doughnuts, the hiss of the coffee machine and the illuminated fridge filled with nourishing bites.

“The kiosk model, for us, is really exciting,” says Kate. “We love to be able to offer all of the originals – our nodo coffee and doughnuts are just such a great combination – plus our grab-and-go meals.” The headline offering here is, of course, nodo’s famed baked gluten-free doughnuts. You’ll spy favourites like the coconut-coated and jam-filled Novoblueberry lemon cheesecakefairy bread doughnuts and the apple and native cinnamon doughnut. In addition to these baked beauties, nodo West Village is serving classic nodo menu items served grab-and-go style – think ham-and-jam toasties on housemade pumpkin bread, sausage-and-egg muffins, classic egg toast, and nourish bowls, as well as cold and hot coffeecold-pressed juices, and nodo’s supernatural shakes. A small retail shelf also stocks items like brownie cake mix, coffee beans, baked blueberry granola and organic rapadura sugar.

nodo’s West Village kiosk is now open seven days a week. Click over to the Stumble Guide for more details.
