Do you smell that seductive aroma in the air? It’s one of our all-time favourite smells – barbecue. If you’ve picked up the scent of American barbecue wafting down Hardgrave Road in West End recently, you’re probably sniffing the delightful morsels being lovingly cooked and smoked at Original Dave’s Low & Slow BBQ. This new bar and eatery specialises in grub inspired by the regional recipes of America’s barbecue belt, with a range of aromatic meaty delights luring in patrons like the Pied Piper. If you love bountiful feasts, craft beer and a splash of bourbon, make tracks to sample Original Dave’s finest.

Grab the napkins – this piece of food news is juicy. West End has welcomed a brand-new eatery to its midst, run by locals for locals and fans of barbecue from across Brisbane. Original Dave’s Low & Slow BBQ is the brainchild of West End residents David and Alix, who are avid foodies with a particular penchant for the barbecued bites of America’s southern states. Situated on Hardgrave Road in the space formerly home to Mondo Organics, Original Dave’s blends a casual and relaxed vibe with some vibrant touches of Americana. Dave and Alix transformed the space themselves, installing a new bar made with red gumwood from the Sunshine Coast and recycled corrugated roofing sheets, while also bringing new kitchen gear (including some stellar smoking apparatus) and brightening up the place with a striking red, white and blue colour palette.

The Original Dave’s menu takes diners on a journey through many of the regional styles of the American barbecue belt, with Dave’s own recipes for rubs and sauces featuring throughout the menu. We’re talking barbecue ribs cooked Kansas City-style, beef brisket slow smoked just like in Texas, slow-cooked pork shoulder just as good as if it was from Carolina – if you are a fan of American-style barbecue, then this should be next on your dining itinerary. The fun doesn’t stop there – Dave also cooks up the likes of Andouille sausage, battered and fried dill pickles, chilli dogs, pulled pork nachos and a range of ‘fixins’ including creamy mac and cheese, garlic toast, cowboy caviar, and 5 Alarm chilli – not to mention a whole breakfast menu for weekend diners. Can’t decide on what to eat? We suggest splashing out on the Big Feed Platter, which comes with a bit of everything. Six beer taps have been installed, pouring almost exclusively Queensland brews, with the likes of Brisbane Brewing Co., Burleigh Brewing Co. and Newstead Brewing Co. featuring, in addition to Hawaiian tipple Kona. Non-beer drinkers can sip on quality red and white wines and spirits, with more than 20 bourbons available and cocktails to boot.

Original Dave’s is now smoking! Follow your nose to the Stumble Guide for more details.
