Pavement Whispers: Volume 117 April 11

From whispers of Lebanese eats to basement jazz bars, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

The Pine Kitchen
Fancy a Lebanese-spiced cheesecake? How about a Turkish delight or matcha and lime milkshake? This deliciousness can be yours so soon, when The Pine Kitchen opens at Brisbane Showgrounds’ The Green in the coming weeks. The eatery comes from Steve Darwich, who is drawing on his Lebanese heritage and Australian upbringing to create the cafe, melding modern classics with Lebanese flavours. The Pine Kitchen will definitely not be your standard Lebanese cafe – the breakfast, lunch and dinner menus will feature the likes of bircher muesli prepared with Middle Eastern spices, and sandwiches and burgers with Lebanese flavours, alongside traditional delicacies such as meze platters, fattoush and kebabs. The cafe will serve, exclusively for Brisbane, award-winning Frankie’s Beans coffee from Sydney, as well as creative milkshakes and other fun drinks.

Doo-Bop Jazz Bar
Jazz-loving cats and kittens, get excited, for Edward Street will soon be home to Doo-Bop Jazz Bar. Due to open in June this year, the live-music venue will be spread over two storeys and dedicated to all things jazz. The ground level will be open for early-morning coffee through to lunch and dinner, with its Art Deco space home to a grand piano, so diners can take in the smooth sounds of jazz over the likes of tapas, New Orleans-style po’boys, pastas, pizza and more. Downstairs in the subterranean basement you’ll find the live-jazz venue, inspired by one of the world’s oldest jazz clubs, Village Vanguard in New York City. A fully refurbished 1955 Steinway Model B grand piano imported from New York will grace the large stage, with the venue set to play host to local, interstate and international jazz acts most (if not all) evenings.

Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers James Street
It seems we just can’t get enough of Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers! Last night the gnoccheria opened up on James Street at The Box on James, helping to bring gnocchi to the good people of the inner north. Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers James Street will be open for dinner seven nights a week, and will offer the same delicious menu as its Paddington sibling – hello wild mushroom with truffle sauce. While the main focus will be takeaway and UberEATS delivery, the kiosk has 18 dine-in seats and is BYO. Head to our Stumble Guide for opening hours!

Vintaged Bar + Grill
The Hilton’s Vintaged Bar + Grill welcomed a new executive chef last week, former Stokehouse Q head chef Matthew Wood. Matthew will continue to honour Vintaged’s dedication to work closely with local producers and approach the menu with a nose-to-tail philosophy. While his all-new menu will be revealed in late May/early June, Matthew will continue to offer many of Vintaged’s dietary-specific menus, including the specially crafted vegan menu.
