Pavement Whispers: Volume 137 August 29

From whispers of succulent rotisserie chicken eateries to grilled-cheese heaven, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Montrachet
Iconic French restaurant Montrachet will soon have a new home, farewelling its long-standing Paddington space for fresh new digs on Bowen Hills’ King Street. The award-winning, hatted restaurant will take over the hero tenancy on the corner of King and Machinery Streets, doubling its capacity and making room for a walk-in cellar. Montrachet’s brasserie-style cooking and signature dishes will carry over to the new location – hello, double-baked souffle with crab meat and gruyere – alongside a number of new creative dishes. An all-new patisserie will also be attached to the restaurant, serving up flaky buttery pastries and lunchtime takeaway baguettes. The opening date is yet to be revealed – we’ll keep you posted.

Victoria Park Rotisserie Kitchen
You’ll be forgiven if you find yourself drooling in Herston this October – we think some pretty mouth-watering aromas will be floating in the air from Victoria Park. The leisure destination has just announced new food offering Rotisserie Kitchen, set to open in the coming weeks. Victoria Park Bistro and Function Venue’s award-winning executive chef Jason Peppler (ex-Isis Brasserie) has overseen the menu, which will centre around wholesome family-style roast dinners. A schmick Rotisol rotisserie oven has been imported from France, which will roast whole chickens and porchetta to succulent perfection, served alongside roast potatoes and seasonal salads. We’ll have more details for you in early October.

Melt Brothers Garden City
Grilled cheese heaven is coming to the southside – Melt Brothers has just revealed its second store will be at Westfield Garden City. The Gresham Lane eatery has certainly made a cheesy name for itself since brothers Felix and Justin Kong opened its doors in November 2016, and you can expect the same level of gooey goodness in their second store. Located near the popular 8 Street, Melt Brothers Garden City will be bigger than its older sibling, offering dine-in seating as well as takeaway. You’ll find all the grilled cheese that you know and love, including day-starter Morning Glory with maple bacon, fried eggs, sriracha mayo and cheddar (paired perfectly with a Fonzie Abbott coffee), the classic three-cheese The Mouse Trap, and the decadent The BFC filled with buttermilk fried chicken, slaw, buffalo sauce and aged cheddar. Melt Brothers Garden City is set to open in the coming months – keep an eye on The Weekend Edition for more information soon.

Lock’n’Load
After ten years of good times, West End institution Lock’n’Load has announced it will be closing its doors on Sunday September 10. The neighbourhood bar and eatery will be throwing a farewell shindig on closing day, jam-packed with all the things Lock’n’Load does best – eats, drinks and a whole lot of live music. The end of the Lock’n’Load story, however, isn’t a sad one – the closure is to make room for an exciting new project from the same team. The details are still under wraps, but the new venue is set to be bigger, better and more grown up than before, responding to West End’s dynamically changing landscape over the past ten years. We’ll have more details in mid-September.
