Pavement Whispers: Volume 184 August 7

From whispers of Brisbane's new riverside restaurant to a pastry pop-up, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Patina
Brisbane City is set to welcome a new riverside restaurant later this month, when Patina opens its doors on August 23. The contemporary restaurant will reside at the heritage-listed Customs House, taking over the space previously occupied by Customs House Restaurant. Executive chef John Offenhauser (ex-chef de cuisine and sous chef at Marco Polo at the Treasury Hotel) has crafted a share-style menu showcasing local seafood and seasonal produce, working closely with local farmers and even growing his own mushrooms in an on-site cellar. The menu is broken into various sized share plates, including the likes of chargrilled octopus with smoked tomato, olive, basil and mozzarella, grilled oyster mushrooms with shitake cream, stracciatella and tarragon oil, and slow-cooked lamb shoulder with black-garlic hummus, harissa yoghurt, pomegranate and flat breads.

Jocelyn’s Provisions Pop-up
There have been a lot of Jocelyn’s Provisions stores pop-up throughout Brisbane over the years, but we’ve always been able to get our baked-good fix somewhere on James Street. Now the pastry providore is about to embark on its latest (and final) James Street move to allow for an all-new space, but to make sure we never have to go without, Jocelyn’s is popping up across the road in the Little James Street precinct. The Jocelyn’s Provisions pop-up has taken over the space that previously housed Kova Lifestyle, and is offering pop-up-exclusive treats with Six Weeks of Spectacular Sweets. Each week, a special sweet will be offered for seven days only until stock runs out each day – think creme brulee and toffee cheesecake squares, peanut and salted caramel meringues, tiramisu cupcakes and more. There will also be special one-off cakes of the day to look out for. The signature store will re-open in mid-to-late September, and will be complete with a coffee bar and dedicated seating.

Little Big House Parmy Party
Since opening in early December last year, Little Big House has dished out a whopping 10,000 chicken parmigianas. That’s a whole lot of chicken. To celebrate this milestone, the South Bank bar and eatery is serving up its crispy chicken parmies with a side of chips and salad for only $10 (usually $21) from August 6–12. The parmy celebration will culminate in a Parmy Party on Sunday August 12, where anyone who has uploaded a photo of them eating a Little Big House parmy this week will go in the draw to win a year’s worth of parmigianas. East 9th Brewing Tap Takeover at Gerard’s Bar
Remember when we wrote about the colour of beer? It was what happened when East 9th Brewing teamed up with street-art outfitters Ironlak to capture the ideal colour of beer, then recreated it, canned it and distributed it for all beer lovers to enjoy. To celebrate James Street’s new graffiti-style mural by artist DOES in the laneway between Gerard’s Bistro and Mecca Cosmetica, East 9th Brewing and Ironlak are hosting a tap takeover at Gerard’s Bar this Friday August 10 from 5:00 pm. DOES will be completing the final touches of the mural live, plus there will be limited-edition prints available for purchase.

If you’ve heard something that’s worth mentioning in The Weekend Edition’s Pavement Whispers, email [email protected].
