Pavement Whispers: Volume 110 February 21

From whispers of gourmet providores to free vegan burgers, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

esq. shop
Do you like the sound of smoked buffalo jerky? Or maybe maple and juniper bacon? Then you’re in luck – soon both of those items can be yours, when renowned chef Ryan Squires launches esq. shop in the coming weeks. The jerky and bacon are just two of the products that will be available in esq. shop to start, which Ryan describes as a collection of everyday food items, done extremely well. Each product in the range, which also includes a passata, pickled ginger, sandwich pickles, ketchup and hot sauce, has been handmade by Ryan in small batches, using local ingredients and without all the additives you might find in your supermarket pantry staples. Some of the items available will be familiar to those who have dined at esq. or Esquire, with crowd favourites such as esq.’s kimchi chips soon to be added to the line-up. A selection of esq. shop items are currently available at Ryan’s restaurants, and mid-March will see the range available both online and in selected retailers such as Sourced Grocer. We’ll have more details for you soon.

Betty’s Burgers & Concrete Co.
Good news burger lovers – we can now confirm that soon we will be graced with not one, but two Betty’s Burgers & Concrete Co. spots in Brisbane. A while ago we revealed that Betty’s was coming to Newstead in May, and we can now confirm that the much-loved burger joint will be opening in Westfield Chermside’s upcoming new dining precinct in early June. Betty’s at Chermside will have the same offering as its current locations, which means all of the delicious burgers, all of the delectable sides and all of the mouth-watering concretes – that’s creamy custard ice-cream, in case you didn’t know.

MooFree Burgers Food Truck
You all went a little crazy when we wrote about vegan burger joint MooFree Burgers late last year, so we assume you’d like to know that the MooFree Burgers Food Truck is launching this week! To celebrate the launch, the truck will be dishing out free burgers this Thursday February 23. The food truck will be parked at Charlie’s Fruit Market in Everton Park and you better get in quick – you can nab a free The Fun Guy or Chick’n Licken burger between 5:00–7:00 pm. In return for your free burger, there will be a donation bucket to raise funds for Farm Animal Rescue (FAR) Australia. From 2:00–8:00 pm there will also be merchandise stalls for Sea Shepherd and FAR, James Aspey t-shirts for sale and live music from Humblèt.
