Pavement Whispers: Volume 161 February 27

From whispers of all-you-can-eat gelato to blush-pink wonderlands, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

All-you-can-eat gelato at La Macelleria
We’ll repeat that. All. You. Can. Eat. Gelato. Get your stretchy pants at the ready, folks – on Sunday March 25, La Macelleria Gelateria West End is hosting its first all-you-can-eat gelato event. The gelateria will be scooping all of its classic flavours plus a ‘gelato DJ set’ – five special-guest flavours only available on the day – of matcha, maple pecan pie, earl grey and yuzu sorbet, strawberry and balsamic vinegar sorbet, and coconut, white chocolate and lime. Your $10 ticket will give you as much gelato as you can eat, which can be pre-purchased online or bought on the day. For full event and ticketing information, head to our Event Guide.

el’ rosa by Arc + Family
James Street’s resident pothead Arc + Family has a new project in the works and we have three words to say about it – all pink everything. The team is busy transforming the garden space behind the store to el’ rosa by Arc + Family, a breezy courtyard and event space, and almost everything (even the floor) is getting a fresh lick of blush-pink paint. The space will be filled with lush greenery and giant cacti and will constantly evolve – on weekends you can pop in for pink coffee and other fun drinks, the space can be hired for everything from baby showers and wedding ceremonies to pop-ups and photoshoots, and Arc + Family will be hosting a number of its own events, including workshops and screenings of nostalgic movies and TV shows (The OC marathon, anyone?). el’ rosa is set to open in mid-to-late April – we’ll keep you posted.

Isles Lane
How do you feel about ice-cold beers and lobster rolls for fun-lunch Friday? Isles Lane is gearing up to give you just that, when it opens in Post Office Square in mid-April. The bar and eatery comes from Trent Meade and Matt Blyth, the team behind The Met and GPO Hotel, who are moving away from nightclubs to focus on the rebrand of their hospitality group, Celissa. Sitting at 300 Queen Street, Isles Lane will overlook the green lawns of Post Office Square, opening the 400-patron space right up to draw in natural light. The venue will be open from breakfast until late seven days, with the menu set to feature the likes of spicy barbecue beer-can chicken, roasted bone marrow with a garlic and herb crust, and the aforementioned lobster rolls, alongside a broad selection of beer, wine and spirits.

Brewski 2.0
Exciting times are ahead for Caxton Street bar Brewski. Works are currently underway for a mammoth extension, which will see the building extend out to where the back deck currently sits, more than doubling the space. When completed in June, the bar will be entirely air-conditioned, have a new function space, and while the deck will be gone, large windows at the rear will still allow sippers to catch that spectacular Brewski sunset view. The renovation will also include the addition of a neighbouring drink-in bottle shop complete with a courtyard area, where you can purchase all-Australian high-end craft beer, natural wines and small-batch sprits to drink in or takeaway, plus there will be growler refill and canning facilities. Brewski fans can rest easy in the meantime – the bar will be business as usual throughout the renos.
