Devon Garden City
After gaining a loyal following across its three southern cafes, Sydney’s Devon is heading north, opening its first Brisbane cafe at Westfield Garden City on Monday February 18. The 80-seater venue will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with executive chef Zachary Tan creating an all-day dining menu featuring the quirky Asian-inspired dishes that have become favourites at Devon’s three Sydney cafes. By day, expect to find signature dishes such as the Croissant St Denis, featuring a ‘ghetto-style’ omelette with lobster meat, bisque beurre blanc, caviar and herbs inside a fresh croissant, and Breakfast with the Sakumas, with miso-marinated king salmon, eel croquette, radish petite salad, a 63-degree egg, Kewpie mayo and furikake. Come evening, Devon Garden City will serve the likes of squid-ink angel-hair pasta with mussels, crab, mentaiko cream sauce, flying fish roe and chives, and sweets such as Devon’s famous DD soft serve with hot chips.
Good news for fans of a juicy nood, Japanese-born ramen chain Ramen Danbo cheekily announced via Instagram that a Brisbane location (and third Australian location) was in the works. The popular chain expanded from Japan to Australia in 2017 – quickly establishing two locations in Southport and Surfers Paradise – and now we can confirm that South Brisbane will soon score a Ramen Danbo outlet of its own in March. A 140-sqm space has been secured a short distance from the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, serving the same tasty menu of ramen varieties as its southern siblings, while also offering a larger range of Japanese beers on tap. We’ll have more information for you closer to Ramen Danbo’s opening date.
Yuzu & Co
Speaking of Japanese eats, New Farm favourite Yuzu & Co has a new location in the works. Chef Kuldeep Singh has been feeding New Farm locals his interpretation of contemporary Japanese fare and is now set to give Milton a taste of his delightful dishes. Yuzu & Co Milton will be opening on Park Road this weekend, with a larger 60-seat space catering to lunch and dinner crowds. Expect lunchtime additions including poke bowls, alongside signature dishes such as brie tempura, tofu tataki, soft-shell crab burgers and duck teriyaki. Check back next week for a closer look!
Chandon S Sunset Cabana pop-up
There have been riverside igloos and summer spritz bars, and now for its latest pop-up, Customs House is presenting the Chandon S Sunset Cabana. Evoking Mediterranean beach club vibes, the pop-up will feature white sail-swathed cabanas among plenty of greenery, where guests can kick back and enjoy Chandon S on ice, sparkling wine, cocktails and snacks including mini steamed duck buns and Korean fried chicken sliders.
