Pavement Whispers: Volume 207 January 29

From whispers of new laneway precincts to sweet dreams, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Nota
Paddington’s 224 Given Terrace (formerly Montrachet and Margo) is set to come to life again, when Nota opens in the coming months. The eatery comes from rising young chefs Sebastiaan de Kort and Kevin Docherty, who both felt that Brisbane was in need of a produce-driven dining option that was both uncomplicated and affordable. While this is each chef’s first restaurant, both have had experience in renowned kitchens both internationally and in Brisbane – Kevin completed his apprenticeship under Philip Johnson at e’cco bistro and has worked with Michelin-starred chefs across the globe, while Sebastiaan completed his apprenticeship under the guidance of Javier Codina at Moda and worked in France before opening deli and kitchen The Cheese Pleaser in 2017. With its name derived from the Latin phrase for ‘familiar kitchen’, Nota intends to be just that – a place where the chefs can get creative with flavourful simple-yet-satisfying dishes, making the diners feel right at home.

Annie’s Lane
Fortitude Valley is set to welcome a new beer garden and retail precinct, with blank-canvas tenancies currently under offer at 621 Ann Street. The iconic site is available to the market for the first time in 18 years (formerly Oh Hello and The Monastery) under a new development plan called Annie’s Lane. The corner site will feature a variety of tenancies, including ground-floor retail, a courtyard/beer garden venue, and a never-before-offered rooftop space. The precinct will front Ann Street and wrap around to Marshall Street, with some tenancies backing onto newly activated Annie’s Lane. Leasing opportunities are currently available for Annie’s Lane – stay tuned for updates.

New Farm Confectionery
Some sweet news for your Tuesday morning – New Farm Confectionery has announced a new permanent shop. The sweet haven has been hinting at a new store on its Instagram for the past couple of weeks and The Weekend Edition is excited to be the first to announce where it will be! Northside sugar lovers rejoice – New Farm Confectionery’s second permanent shop will be housed in Westfield Chermside’s The Hub laneway precinct. Opening Friday February 1, New Farm Confectionery Chermside will offer all of its usual favourites (hello, dark chocolate and raspberry bark) plus a new pick-and-mix offering. With a new store also comes new products, such as passionfruit milk-chocolate macadamias, raspberry dark-chocolate almonds, and gold milk-chocolate hazelnuts. The Chermside store will be open seven days, so you’ll always be able to get your New Farm Confectionery hit.
