BLK BOX
The team behind thriving specialty coffee roaster The Black Lab Coffee Co. has been busy in recent months. Just over six weeks ago the crew opened a new brew bar in Spring Hill called Wolfgang Specialty Coffee (bolstering a portfolio that already includes Blackout in Paddington and The New Black in Fortitude Valley), and is set to follow up with another venue south of the river when BLK BOX opens on Montague Road in West End on Monday August 10. The takeaway-focused venture will sit snugly at the front of forthcoming fitness spot REVL, which will share a wall with Brisbane Distillery & Gin School. BLK BOX will have a simple fit-out, with kerbside tables, milk-crate stools and a standing bar giving locals a chance to sit and sip or grab and go. Alongside The Black Lab’s top-notch coffee (available in espresso, batch and cold-drip varieties), the cafe will also serve a selection of brekkie muffins, protein balls and granola cups to help keep folks fuelled. Keep your eyes peeled for a closer look when BLK BOX arrives in August, and we’ll also have a glimpse at Wolfgang Specialty Coffee later this week. Stay tuned!
Signature’s Sunday Lunch
Fancy a long Sunday lunch to stretch out the weekend? Emporium Hotel’s Signature restaurant has just announced it will be launching Sunday lunches on August 9, with each week celebrating local Queensland produce. To kick things off, husband and wife duo executive chef Chris Norman and executive sous chef Alex Norman have created a decadent truffle lunch special, running for five weeks from Sunday August 9. The five-course degustation will see truffles featured in every course, paired with produce from the Scenic Rim and beyond. The menu features the likes of fresh Abrolhos Island scallops paired with parmesan and black garlic gnocchi, cauliflower puree and truffle emulsion, Brisbane Valley quail ravioli with truffle veloute, and black truffle silken caramel served alongside truffle honey and mandarin. The Signature Sunday Lunch starts at $75 per person, with local wine pairing available for an additional $25. For more information, including booking details, head to our Event Guide.
Oyster Frenzy at One Fish Two Fish
Next Wednesday August 5 marks National Oyster Day and to celebrate, One Fish Two Fish is bringing back its popular Oyster Frenzy event. For $59 per person, shellfish lovers can indulge in six oyster courses including squid-ink tempura-battered with Asian salad and sriracha aioli, tarragon with garlic-butter pangrattato, three-cheese baked, and limoncello and finger-lime caviar. Guests will also receive a glass of Bouy Oh Bouy prosecco or Stone & Wood Pacific Ale on arrival. The events on Wednesday August 5 and Thursday August 6 have already sold out, so two lunch sittings have been added on Friday August 7. Bookings are essential – head to the One Fish Two Fish website to secure your spot.
Stein Rita at The Bavarian
Rockpool Dining Group is bringing together two of its crowd favourites to create one super beverage – Stein Rita. The Bavarian and El Camino Cantina are joining forces to create the shareable cocktail, which sees a one-litre glass stein filled with margarita. Stein Ritas are available frozen or on the rocks, in classic or strawberry flavours, which can be levelled up to a Cadillac version with a rich float of Grand Marnier on top. The mega cocktail is available from this weekend at The Bavarian Eagle Street Pier, WingHAÜS by Bavarian on Edward Street and Beerhaüs at Bowen Hills.
