Pavement Whispers: Volume 126 June 13

From whispers of more north-side eateries to secretive New Farm cafes, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Westfield Chermside
The folks at Westfield Chermside broke the Internet a few weeks back with the announcement of its brand-new food precinct opening up to the public on Thursday June 22. The likes of Betty’s Burgers & Concrete Co., Tapworks Bar & Grill, BiN 931, Zeus Street Greek and Motto Motto are just some of the big arrivals kicking off trading on the day, but we can reveal a few more names joining the already illustrious ranks. Health-food haven Coco Bliss, colourful Thai eatery Kinn + Derm (from the team behind Kinn Thai) and boutique java joint Archer Specialty Coffee will also be coming to the precinct, as well as the opening of The Hub – a specialty laneway housing unique start-up businesses and boutiques. If sampling each and every new food spot at Westfield Chermside results in a slight expansion of the waistline, you can get back in fighting form at Total Fusion – a new gym also opening on Thursday June 22, which offers 30 different types of classes to help get in shape. Check back next week for a closer look at the new eateries!

The Brunswick Project
A new face is set to arrive in New Farm at the end of winter when The Brunswick Project opens its doors to the inner-north brunch crowd. Chef Jimmy Williams moved to Brisbane from Melbourne in 2016 and immediately sought out the perfect opportunity to merge fine-dining service with a warm and welcome atmosphere and sublime cafe fare. Within a freshly renovated space boasting raw timber touches and unique greenery, The Brunswick Project will serve unique modern Australian-inspired fare paired with specialty coffee from award-winning Melbourne-based Rosso Roasting Co. This one is still a couple of months away, but we are already buzzing with excitement.

Black Ox Pop-up Restaurant
Fans of succulent flame-cooked food would to well to mark Wednesday July 19 in their diaries. Black Ox Cellars – the pop-up restaurant series masterminded by chef Chris Siktars – has announced another appearance next month, serving an eight-course tasting menu of morsels cooked over an open coal pit. This pop-up will take place within the iconic Paddington Substation and will feature dishes such as bone marrow and fermented tamarillo, beef and charred rhubarb, wild Queensland mahi mahi and more, cooked over vines, woods and seaweeds sourced from around Brisbane.
