Pavement Whispers: Volume 127 June 20

From whispers of baller boat parties to new local bars, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Lucky Egg and the Good Time Bar
We hope you’ve got your wet wipes ready, Brisbane – Lucky Egg West End is coming to hatch your fried chicken dreams, taking up residence at the newly refurbished Good Time Bar in early July. After gaining cult status as some of our fair city’s favourite fried chicky, the eatery is spreading its wings to expand from its original home at The Brightside in Fortitude Valley. Pitted as a prime spot for a takeaway feed or some knock-off beers and burgs, the new Lucky Egg and Good Time Bar pairing is also conveniently located around the corner from live music venue Max Watt’s. The new-look venues will combine a relaxed street dining vibe with craft beer and staple cocktails as well as seasonal drink inventions, plus coffee served during the day. The Lucky Egg kitchen will be pumping out the favourites that you know and love, as well as new items such as spicy noodle bowls, crunchy aromatic fried chicken share plates and some lighter options for the #fitspo types.

The Coop Bistro
From one chicken joint to another (we are truly living in a crispy golden age) some of you might have noticed a few changes happening lately at The Flying Cock – namely the fact that it isn’t called The Flying Cock anymore – at least the restaurant side of things! The popular Brunswick Street bar and eatery is now going by The Coop Bistro – styling itself as Brisbane’s finest chicken pub. Aside from the name and a spruced up interior, the venue’s menu has undergone some huge changes, with a well-rounded selection of fresh dishes bolstered by a new cocktail list and an enhanced wine selection. Fans of finger-lickin’ goodness should grab the napkins and get ready to drool – The Coop Bistro’s menu features the likes of gluten-free buttermilk fried chicken, twice-cooked wings, vegan-friendly vinegar-battered cauliflower wings, chargrilled corn dusted with parmesan and lathered in miso mayo, tonkatsu eggplant burgers, roasted broccolini and carrot salad, and nine kinds of dipping sauces to accompany your order. Fans of the classics can still order favourites such as the rump steak and chicken parmy. The Flying Cock name hasn’t disappeared entirely though – the upstairs portion of the venue will continue to host live music and late-night entertainment as The Flying Cock throughout the week.

Seadeck
Dreaming of living out a Lonely Island-esque boat fantasy? Well pal, your dreams are about to come true. After a successful first season in Sydney, Seadeck is heading north to the Brisbane River from Saturday July 1, cruising our fine waters for 11 weeks. The hand-crafted European vessel spans 42 m and features three vast decks, each complete with schmick lounge seating to sprawl out on and soak up the winter sun. Cruising on Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays, Seadeck will host entertainment on all journeys, plus offer food and beverages to purchase on board – or you can be a total baller and opt for a VIP package with hosted bottle service. Tickets are on sale now – head to our Event Guide for more details.

Poppy Rose
If you’ve ever been a recipient of a pretty posy from Poppy Rose, we’re sure you would have been pleased as punch. The team gets up every morning to find the best flowers in town to create a new bouquet each day, and is now expanding to offer flora lovers even more. Planned for early to mid-July, Poppy Rose is opening a bricks-and-mortar store in Norman Park in addition to its online sustainable flower-delivery service. The store will be a green space, focusing on low-maintenance plants for the home that have been trialled and tested by the team. It will also introduce Poppy Rose’s range of hand-painted pots, Gregg Pots, plus a selection of fresh blooms will also be on offer each day. We’ll have more details for you soon!

Min & Co
Upcoming East Brisbane development The Wellington has just announced its second commercial tenant, Min & Co. The roastery, cafe and eatery comes from Phillip Di Bella and Mina Ali, who are drawing on their combined 40 years’ experience in the coffee industry to create the space. As well as a boutique coffee offering, Min & Co will have a regularly changing menu, collaborating with local chefs to showcase their creations. The Wellington’s ground-floor retail and dining precinct will take its inspiration from New York’s Chelsea Markets, and promises to offer a vibrant mix of eateries to the inner-city suburb.
