The word ‘glee’ pretty accurately describes the feeling that comes over us when we drink great coffee, so it makes perfect sense that we’re excited about Glee Coffee coming to Brisbane. The Central Coast favourite is headed north, due to open on Glenelg Street in South Brisbane on Sunday June 10. The brainchild of brothers Ben and Chris Gleeson, the roastery has been operating for close to ten years establishing locations in Chapman and Erina Heights, with Brisbane being its first Queensland roastery and cafe. Glee Coffee has become renowned on the Central Coast for its ethically sourced beans, seasonal brunch menus and cheery disposition, all three of which will be on offer in South Brisbane. All beans will be roasted in house, with plans to start wholesaling in the coming months.
It’s a beautiful thing when two friends turn their passion into a real-life project. For mates Scott Robertson and Luke Nixon, that passion is beer, and the real-life project is Soapbox Beer. The idea was conceived over many homebrews one night and now the microbrewery/bar is currently underway in Fortitude Valley, due to open in the coming months. Soapbox will be brewing beers on site, complemented by a tasting room so you can savour straight from the source. A handful of core beers will be available on tap as well as a couple of seasonal brews, plus Soapbox will rotate guest taps showcasing local breweries. The bar will also have an on-site kitchen – we’ll have more details on the menu soon.
All-You-Can-Eat Nuggets at The Coop
Fortitude Valley’s The Coop wants to welcome you to The Nugg Club. Each Saturday from 12:00–9:00 pm, the pub will be serving up all-you-can-eat nuggets, bottomless fries and as much slaw as you can handle in two hours, all for a crisp $20. You can choose from classic crumbed, tempura-battered or gluten-free chicken and vegetarian nuggets, fresh and ready to be dunked in your choice of ten sauces, including tomato, sweet and sour, tangy barbecue, nori and miso mayo, and blue cheese sour cream. To wash down your golden morsels, The Coop will be pouring a rotating selection of cocktail, beer and cider jugs each week. You’ll also be rewarded for eating – ask the bar staff for a The Nugg Club membership card and after attending five nuggy Saturdays, your sixth one is free. The Nugg Club launches this Saturday June 9 and bookings are encouraged.
In case you missed it, the highly anticipated W Brisbane opened to the public last Friday June 1. W Brisbane is the first five-star hotel to open in Brisbane City in 20 years, and it certainly hasn’t done things by halves.
