Trash Taco
If you’ve been looking longingly at the shipping container outside The Brightside since Lucky Egg moved to Brunswick Street Mall, we’ve got great news for you. Lucky Egg’s Jacob Knauth has new plans for the space – Trash Taco – born out of Jacob’s frustration with not being able to find simple, delicious and authentic tacos around town. The fast-paced eatery will offer only three taco options served up on La Tortilleria tortillas from Melbourne, filled with rich meats, piquant allium, citrus-based garnishes and sauces that promise to pack a punch. Quesadillas, make-your-own share plates and small bites will also feature on the menu, alongside constantly rotating natural wines, ice-cold beers and micheladas, perfect for cutting through the powerful flavours. Trash Taco is set to open in early May – we’ll have full details soon.
Salon de co.
Spring Hill’s historic Ovolo Inchcolm (previously The New Inchcolm Hotel & Suites) has announced its official launch for Wednesday April 4. On this date the hotel will also unveil its new signature restaurant after closing Thomson’s Reserve, which once sat in the front entry of the hotel. The former Thomson’s space has now been converted into a bar and lounge area, with the new restaurant, Salon de co., residing in the back of the building. Salon de co. will embrace the 1930s-era building’s rich history, drawing further inspiration from the surrounding decades of the 20s and 40s. Chef Anthony Hales has remained as executive chef, crafting a menu of wholesome modern Australian share dishes with international influences.
Urbane Markets
Preparing for a long weekend of feasting? You might want to kick things off at the new permanent food market opening this Thursday March 29. Urbane Markets Ipswich will see up to 15 food stalls set up shop at Swifts Sports Club in Booval, alongside 30 general market stalls and a vast array of entertainment. After the official launch on Thursday evening, the markets will continue every Friday and Saturday from 4:00–10:00 pm. The opening weekend will include the likes of MooFree Burgers, Uncle Phil’s Dumpling Envy and Dippin’ Dots dishing out the goods to a backdrop of live entertainment, children’s activities and more. In the coming weeks the site will also start hosting a farmers market on Saturday mornings.

This year was by far our biggest yet, with the awards receiving more than double the amount of voters than the previous year.
