Greek Weekend at The Greek Club
We were all crestfallen to hear of Paniyiri’s postponement to October. Thankfully we’re not doomed to spend a rainy weekend cursing the weather for washing away our plans, because the team at The Greek Club is celebrating anyway. Making lemons out of lemonade, The Greek Club and Nostimo Restaurant will be hosting a weekend of festivities as part of its Paniyiri postponement party on May 21–22. The two days will be loaded with Hellenic-style revelry – we’re talking Greek wine and beer tastings on the terrace from 12:00–4:00 pm on both Saturday and Sunday, a Greek Taverna Night from 7:00 pm to late in the Olympus Room with live music from The Greek Party Band, and a Greek dance party (featuring DJs spinning Greek, house and RNB hits) on The Greek Club’s grand balcony from 4:00 pm to late on Sunday. The Royal Tea
Do you go bonkers for boba? If so, you’ll get a kick out of this – next month Stafford will welcome The Royal Tea, the brand-new bubble tea bar from the team behind King of the Wings. Restaurateurs and boba addicts Dylan and Katrina Pires have snagged a space next door to their beloved chicken-wing eatery (previously home to Phat Greens) for the concept, which will see the team convert the space into an Instagrammable takeaway-oriented drink and dessert spot. One half of the space will be converted into a commercial kitchen servicing both The Royal Tea and King of the Wings, while the street-facing half will house the eye-catching dispensary, boasting a bubble wall and a royal throne for photo ops. The Royal Tea’s offering will include 24 flavours across milk teas, fruit teas and frappes, while loaded desserts will also tempt those with a serious sweet tooth. What’s more, folks dining at King of the Wings will be able to order bubble tea cocktails – think all of The Royal Tea drinks spiked with your choice of liqueur or spirit! Bacchus Restaurant
It’s been a while since we’ve been able to enjoy a sensational dinner at Bacchus Restaurant, but after two years of inactivity the South Bank fine diner is set to reopen to the public on Friday May 20. The eatery is relaunching with some new talent at the helm, with executive chef Matthew Wood (formerly of Stokehouse, ARIA Brisbane and Urbane) and chef de cuisine Isaia Dal Fiume now tasked with creating and executing Bacchus’ menu of decadent and timeless cuisine. Responsibly sourced Australian produce will be celebrated across the offering, which encompasses a full a la carte offering, two degustation experiences (including a vegan option) and its famed high-tea service. Highlights of the new menu include kangaroo tartare with beetroot and camel cheese, handmade tagliolini with Tasmanian sea urchin, Glacier 51 Heard Island toothfish with celeriac textures and celery, Queensland wagyu petite tender with parsnip and brussels sprouts, and chamomile and honey featuring Bee One Third honey, lemon and Maleny Dairy cream. On the wine front, guests can cast an eye over a 600-strong list (including 47 wines by the glass) showcasing vino from famous grape-growing regions. The food isn’t the only new element to take note of – Bacchus has also refreshed its interior, with a new colour palette featuring deep mahogany, tobacco and teal adding a stately elegance to the restaurant. Cowch Gelato Bar
In case you missed the sweet news yesterday, the brains behind Cowch Dessert Cocktail Bar have announced that it will be bringing a gelato-centric concept to Pellicano’s flourishing South City Square precinct in Woolloongabba later this year. The purveyors of cocktails and confections are shifting gears with the concept, taking on a cosy 60-sqm space to create a dispensary dedicated to the silky dessert. Cowch Gelato Bar will serve a rotating selection of 20 flavours from its specialty gelato cabinet, with flavours that have been described as anything but basic. Though the team is keeping tight-lipped about the flavour selection, we’ve been told that the tastes of Cowch Dessert Cocktail Bar’s menu will inform the offering. Cowch’s famous waffles and churros will be available in addition to gelato, while coffee and shakes will also feature. Cowch Gelato Bar is aiming for an early-September opening, capping off a year in which a host of new dining destinations (as well as a brand-new cinema) are also expected to open at South City Square.
Bayside Music Hall
It’s a great time to live in Brisbane’s bayside. Manly and Wynnum have become suburbs on the rise following the openings of Manly Boathouse, The Arsonist, Groundhog Social, Shucks Bar and Hudson Brewing, and soon the area will boast its own live-music venue to bolster its cultural offering. The Waterloo Bay Leisure Centre on Tingal Road will soon be reinvented into Bayside Music Hall, a spot for music, drinks and good times. Spearheaded by the team responsible for Wynnum Fringe, Bayside Music Hall will make good use of the venue’s stunning fixtures (like its existing polished floors), creating a new spot for locals to catch national and home-grown acts. Bayside Music Hall will launch on Sunday June 19 with a performance by Aus-rock legends Thirsty Merc (supported by Tom Oliver). Tickets are on sale now – click here to snag yours.
