Pavement Whispers: Volume 173 May 22

From whispers of this year's Night Noodle Markets to free four-cheese pasta, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Good Food Month and Night Noodle Markets
Rejoice! Brisbane’s favourite month of eating, Good Food Month, has announced its return this July. From July 1–31, the city will be abuzz with feasting, concluding with the ever-popular Night Noodle Markets at South Bank. This year’s Asian-style market will see Night Noodle veterans such as Hoy Pinoy, Waffleland, Black Star Pastry and N2 Gelato return, plus the likes of Bao Brothers, Zagyoza and Little Kyoto. Feature events this year include the four-course Pasta Party at Bucci with Icebergs’ chef Monty Koludrovic, the renowned Young Chefs Lunch at ARIA (featuring chefs from Gauge, ARIA, Stokehouse Q, and e’cco bistro), and the Ocean’s Prime long lunch at Walter’s Steakhouse, showcasing surf ‘n turf like you’ve never seen before. For all of the delicious Good Food Month and Night Noodle Market details, head to Food & Drink.

C’est Bon
Woolloongabba’s C’est Bon is currently undergoing some major renovations, due to reopen in mid-June. The French restaurant has taken over the neighbouring space previously occupied by Heinz Meats, breaking through the walls to create two distinct adjoining spaces. Once complete, C’est Bon will boast a new-look restaurant and kitchen, as well as a bar, bistro and coffee shop. The bar will be the first to open followed by the bistro, serving charcuterie, cheese, French tapas and a daily changing bistro-style menu for lunch and dinner. In the cafe you’ll find a cabinet brimming with house-made French delights, plus C’est Bon will also launch a breakfast menu featuring the likes of crepes, waffles, French toast and modern-Australian classics. Big plans still lie ahead – owner Celine Damour is also working on an urban garden, wine cellar and rooftop bar.

Il Verde’s free pasta
If there was ever a day we could get behind, it’s National Cheese Day. That glorious day happens to be Monday June 4, and King Street’s Il Verde is pulling out all stops to celebrate. The Italian eatery will be giving away 200 free four-cheese pasta to takeaway from 12:00 pm onwards – linguine lovingly prepared in a wheel of Grana Padano with taleggio, montasio and provolone cream sauce. Come evening, Il Verde will be offering a quattro formaggi special, featuring an entree of four-cheese pasta followed by a super-cheesy aligot for main. Imagine a fondue-style blend of melted cheese and mashed potato poured over a house-made Italian sausage. The special will also come with a glass of wine and finish with cannoli for dessert. Head to our Event Guide for more details.

Vvaldmeer dinners
Since opening in November 2017, Highgate Hill eatery Vvaldmeer has been cultivating a loyal following with its considered approach to brunch. Recently Vvaldmeer’s chef Amos Ilet has started extending his talents to dinners, offering relaxed five-course degustations every third Thursday. The next two dinners have been announced, with one this week on Thursday May 24 and another on Thursday June 14. The June dinner is completely vegan, and patrons can BYO. Purchase tickets here.
