Pavement Whispers: Volume 248 November 12

From news of a new rooftop bar inspired by coastal Italy to a massive bake sale for charity, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Tetto Rooftop Bar
It’s been a big year for Tim Johnson and his hospitality portfolio. After opening Comuna Cantina at Everton Plaza in September, Tim has revealed details for the next stage of the anticipated development – a brand-new rooftop bar called Tetto. Perched above Tim’s other Everton Plaza arrival Corbett & Claude, Tetto is described as a chic drinks destination inspired by the sun-soaked bars of coastal Italy. Tetto will reportedly boast 300sqm of open-air space, private booths and a rustic Italian theme of concrete, white, black and tangerine orange. Menu details are still being kept under wraps, but we don’t think it’s too big a stretch to assume Tetto will offer some summer-appropriate cocktails and Italian-inspired nibbles. Tetto Rooftop Bar and Corbett & Claude will both open to the public on Friday December 6 – we’ll have more details for you closer to launch!

Bake for a Farmer
Everyone knows the best thing about going to the local fete is snatching up the choice goodies from the bake sale, but imagine if every bake sale you encountered boasted treats from Brisbane’s best restaurants? On Sunday December 1 between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm, Jocelyn’s Provisions is hosting its first-ever bake sale at Albion Fine Trades, raising much-needed funds and awareness for the plight of drought-affected farmers. In addition to the mouth-watering range of treats, the Jocelyn’s team has recruited some of Brisbane’s finest dining institutions to host their own baked-goods stall. ARC DiningCru Bar, e’cco bistro, Gerard’s Bistro, Hellenika, sAme sAme, Tartufo, Ben Williamson and more top-flight culinary outfits will be hawking sweet and savoury treats, with all proceeds from the event going to Drought Angels. That’s not all – the day will also feature plenty of alfresco seating, live music, a petting zoo, face painting and raffle prizes on offer – so bring the whole family and stock up on some limited-edition treats. It’s for a good cause, after all!

ZA ZA TA’s Vintage Champagne Dinner
Since opening its doors in early August, ZA ZA TA has been wowing tastebuds with its Middle East-meets-Mediterranean cuisine. On Thursday November 21, the ZA ZA TA crew will link up with Moet Hennessy for a one-off champagne dinner, pairing executive chef Roy Ner and head chef Dario Manca’s sublime fare with a selection of vintages from Moët & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot to Dom Perignon to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Moët Impérial. The evening will offer six courses, boasting the likes of charcoal spiced calamari, spanner crab manti and wood-fired lamb rump, alongside some seriously crisp sips. Interested? You can book a spot here.

UPSTAIRS at Toombul
We’ve been waiting oh-so patiently, and now our patience is set to be rewarded when Toombul’s new dining playground UPSTAIRS officially opens this Thursday November 14. Boasting a mix of culinary options and entertainment, UPSTAIRS is set to revitalise and rejuvenate the centre, making it a go-to destination overnight. Launching on Thursday will be circus-themed arcade bar Archie Brothers Cirque Electriq, chic Italian eatery Il Gancio, Japanese noodle dispensary Niku Ramen, Jackpot Dining and Hello Harry. Stay tuned for an in-depth look later this week!

Melt Brothers
After folks went bananas for it the first time, Brisbane City grilled-cheese outfit Melt Brothers has announced that it is bringing back its bonkers Mi Goreng Crazy special for a limited time only. If you didn’t nab one of these bad boys the first time, you missed out on savouring authentic mie-goreng noodles, roast chicken, fried egg, ABC sauce, aged cheddar cheese, sriracha mayo and spring onions crammed between two slices of white sourdough cottage loaf. Safe to say this monster will be a coveted lunchtime item when it comes back from Monday November 18, so be sure to act quickly to get your fix before it disappears again.
