Pavement Whispers: Volume 100 November 29

We're celebrating 100 issues of Pavement Whispers! That means 100 issues of The Weekend Edition searching for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, we found out about delicious pastries, suburban bars and much more ...

Suburban Social
Living on the westside and aching for a drink? Friends, we have news for you. There’s a neighbourhood kitchen and bar coming to Chapel Hill this summer, and it goes by the name of Suburban Social. The laid-back bar and eatery comes from pals Kris Dadson and Luke Dillon, who are currently setting up the space on the corner of Moordale Street and Moggill Road. Suburban Social’s aim is to be a go-to for locals, where you can bring your friends, family, kids and pets and hang out over a craft beer and good food. Local, organic and ethical produce will be used where possible, and you can expect easy drinking food such as burgers, fries and snacks on the menu. Stay tuned for more details soon!

The Long Road Bar & Eatery
The space previously occupied by Gaslight Bistro in New Farm is getting a fresh new look, soon to open as The Long Road Bar & Eatery. The venue comes from Leslie McLauchlan and Christopher Tope, who are bringing their experiences from Melbourne and Adelaide to the Brunswick Street cottage. Head chef Nathan Wood, who has previously worked at Gordon Ramsay’s Aubergine in London, has created a menu of simple but sophisticated European fare, including tapas-style dishes and slow-cooked share plates. The Long Road Bar & Eatery is due to open on December 4 – we’ll have the full story for you next week.

Jocelyn’s Provisions
Brace yourselves pastry lovers – Jocelyn’s Provisions is opening not one, but TWO new stores in the coming week! Jocelyn’s Down Town is popping up at 480 Queen from today, November 29, bringing a selection of both savoury and sweet baked goods to The City location each day. Located in 480 Queen’s Queen Street lobby, you’ll be able to pick up an abundance of your Jocelyn’s favourites, including classic vanilla cupcakes, special-occasion cakes and parmesan rounds, plus Christmas treats like fruit mince pies and plum puddings. The coming days will also see the opening of Albion Provisions, located in the all-new Albion Fine Trades Precinct. Full details on both openings are coming soon!

Oliver James Coffee
Oliver Burscough, the brains behind Woodsters, has a few exciting new projects in the works. Woodsters Constructions has found a new home on Austin Street in Newstead, which will house its workshop in the back, and introduce design lovers to two new brands for the company – Oliver James Furniture and Oliver James Coffee. Come January, the warehouse will be converted to a showroom-meets-cafe (fitted out by Woodsters Constructions of course), where patrons can browse and sit on the handcrafted furniture, while sipping on Single O coffee and munching Crust & Co. pastries. For now, Oliver James Coffee (run by Oliver’s partner Daisy) is operating through the wide front window, so you can swing by for a takeaway coffee and pastry on the go.
