Little Big House
Who doesn’t love a good house party? Come December, you won’t have to wait for one of your friends to put their hand up to host – Little Big House is promising house parties every darn week. The highly anticipated opening is the newest project from Solotel (Riverbar & Kitchen and ARIA Restaurant) in South Bank’s ever-growing Southpoint precinct. Little Big House will reside in the heritage-listed Collins Place Queenslander on Grey Street, melding old and new by sprucing up the space while maintaining the house’s iconic facade. The pub will lend itself to Brisbane’s subtropical climate, with a huge deck, wide verandahs, and fairy light-illuminated palm trees and foliage, and a focus on seasonal local ingredients across the drinks and food menu – expect rotisserie roasted chicken, meats and seafood. Doc Brown
Get ready to go back to the future – Doc Brown is coming for you. You won’t need a flux capacitor in your DeLorean to get there though, it’s just a casual trip to West End in mid-November. The cafe is the newest project from familiar face Christian Maltby (ex-owner Brown Dog Cafe) and is currently underway beneath the Escent apartments on Buchanan Street. Doc Brown will serve up breakfast, lunch and Genovese coffee six days a week, with the menu focusing on simple pleasures done well – expect classic avo on toast, slow-cooked beans, toasties with a twist (mmm … kimchi and cheese) and a cabinet full of sandwiches and salads. Oliveaux Interiors and artist Ryan McShane are at work on the space, which will cater to Christian’s love of film and aims to evoke adventure and nostalgia in those who visit. There are also plans for Doc Brown to host movie trivia nights similar to the popular events previously hosted at Brown Dog Cafe. Look out for more details soon!
Spice Den
Casuarina’s Spice Den is headed north, due to open a second location in Brisbane City’s Spire Residences. Spice Den Spire will replicate Casuarina’s intimate Asian-inspired aesthetic with a distinct urban edge to reflect the modern design of Spire’s 40-storey residential building. Much of Spice Den’s pan-Asian menu will stay the same, with the likes of steamed pork and shitake dumplings, crispy barramundi and caramel pork, and mouth-watering half Peking duck, plus the addition of some new signature dishes. Spice Den Spire is due to open in January.
Rosé Revolution
An afternoon of rosé, all in the name of charity? You certainly have our attention. After last year’s sell-out event, Rosé Revolution is back for an afternoon by the river to raise funds for Share the Dignity. From 2:00–5:00 pm on Saturday November 25, Brisbane Powerhouse’s River Studio will turn into a pink wonderland with bites from Bar Alto, DJs spinning beats and more than 12 rosés to sample from wineries such as d’Arenberg, Jericho and Dal Zotto.
