From whispers of vegan ramen to wine wonderlands, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

i like ramen
Following a string of successful i like ramen pop-ups, The Coop Bistro has announced it will be closing its doors for good to make way for the popular vegan ramen joint. That’s right – the much-loved Gold Coast ramen god will be making a permanent Brisbane home for itself in the Brunswick Street space, partnering with The Flying Cock to serve up its plant-based menu of Japanese-inspired eats. Chicken lovers needn’t fret just yet – there’s still a couple of weeks left to get your clucky The Coop fix. The chicken pub will be bidding The Valley farewell on Saturday October 20, with its final 2-4-1 parmy nights on Wednesday October 3, 10 and 17, a goodbye to Bueno Bueno $3 tacos on Thursday October 18, and one last Nugg Club (all-you-can-eat nuggets) on Saturday October 20, plus all of the usual daily deals until then. i like ramen will open shortly after – we’ll have more details soon!

Young Gun of Wine UNCUT
If the names Ochota Barrels, BK Wines and Aphelion get your tastebuds tingling with excitement, then you’re going to want to clear your calendar for Saturday October 27. Australia’s respected incubator for emerging wine producers, Young Gun of Wine, is bringing its UNCUT event to Brisbane for the first time in its 13 years, showcasing some of the country’s most groundbreaking and skilled winemakers. Young Gun of Wine’s UNCUT event is the first step in its process of selecting its top 50, top 12 and number one winemaker of the year for its annual awards, so you can rest assured that you’ll be meeting some of the country’s most innovative young winemakers and tasting their finest drops. Young Gun of Wine UNCUT will be hosted by Brisbane Powerhouse – head to our Event Guide for ticketing and further information.

Florentine Italian Grill and Wine Room
Veteran restaurateur Gianni Greghini has a new project in the works, this time focusing his attention on an Italian steak classic – la bistecca Fiorentina. Due to open at the end of October next to Gianni’s Kitchen, Florentine Italian Grill and Wine Room will bring the world’s largest T-bone steak to Queensland for the first time, with cuts measuring up to 7.5 cm thick. Keeping true to tradition, Florentine will exclusively serve world-class Chianina beef cuts, grown and produced in Australia by Isola Chianina in true Italian style. The cattle are completely free range and grass fed, allowing them to grow slower, retaining their marbling and leading to a full-flavoured, deep-coloured, lean and tender bistecca alla Fiorentina. The Florentine menu will offer diners a selection of Chianina bistecca alla Fiorentina cuts, alongside handpicked Italian wines.

Atelier Brasserie
Bowen Hills’ King Street continues to grow, with another exciting eatery set to join the precinct in early October. Atelier Brasserie comes from Charlotte Barakat, who is drawing on her restaurateur family’s experience, her love of hospitality and her European travels to create “a meeting place for friends and family”. While Charlotte is keeping the specific details of the eatery close to her chest, we can reveal that the menu will lend itself to lingering, embracing European cuisine and the style of dining that takes you well into the evening. We’ll have more details for you in the coming weeks – keep an eye on The Weekend Edition for full details.
