Revel Brewing Co. brings ample beer and cheer to Bulimba

A new entrant emerged in Brisbane’s craft-brewing scene in the final days of 2017, bringing a community-focused offering to Oxford Street in Bulimba. Formerly known as Malt Brewing, this operation has quickly earned a rep for its core range of brews and laid-back atmosphere. After a short period of refining its operation and a slick rebrand, Revel Brewing Co. has now hit its stride. Revel Brewing Co. operates on the premise of good people coming together to drink good beer, and judging on the response from locals over the past three months it seems like the mantra has been fully realised.

Jay Neven’s brewing career started off modest. Before he had ideas for his own operation, he was content keeping friends and family fed and watered with his own home brewing output and love of homemade pizza. After being told countless times he should take his talents further, Jay started putting thought towards the idea of his own brewing operation, based in his beloved home suburb of Bulimba. Being a relative novice in the art of large-scale brewing, Jay decided to surround himself with good people that could help him realise his vision for what would become Revel Brewing Co. After recruiting co-owners Mark Herod, Matt Flexman, Tony Maitland, Dave Claughton and Mick Brown to the cause, Jay and co. secured a space towards the ferry end of Bulimba’s cultural artery Oxford Street and enlisted Spark Breweries & Distilleries for assistance with the fit-out.

Revel Brewing boasts three 3000-litre fermenting tanks and two 1500-litre tanks, capable of brewing 12000 litres of beer every brewing cycle. Matthew Cuthbert came on board as head brewer after a stint at Rocks Brewing Company, and was promptly handed the keys to Revel’s brewing operations. The brewing team is refusing to stick to style, offering a constantly rotating selection of collaborative brews across its plethora of taps, bolstering Revel Brewing Co’s five core beers and one cider. Scientific instruments are used to ensure quality and repeatability, with ingredients sourced as locally as possible. Few foods pair with beer as well as pizza, so Jay has infused his passion for dough with a staple menu of Neapolitan-style classics and a selection of special pizzas designed to complement the ever-changing array of brews.

Revel Brewing Co. is now pouring. Head to the Stumble Guide for more information.
