Sweet sipping – Stone & Wood releases its Strawberry Sundae Kisses beer in time for the Ekka

It's hard to improve upon perfection, especially when referring to essential Ekka specialty, the strawberry sundae. The brewing crew at Stone & Wood has given it a good crack though, taking the best bits of the sundae-scoffing experience and translating it into beer form. Stone & Wood's limited-edition Strawberry Sundae Kisses is back for a third year, with the brewery teaming up with The Common Good to encourage The Royal Queensland Show attendees to raise a glass and raise funds for The Prince Charles Hospital.

Whenever we visit the Ekka, we’ve always got a pre-prepared hit-list of stops planned for our show-day itinerary. Every year, without fail, we start by finding (and devouring) an iconic strawberry sundae. This time around, though, we might have to add a visit to Craft Beer Alley to our schedule for a sudsy schooner of Stone & Wood’s sundae-inspired drop, Strawberry Sundae Kisses. When the Ekka was on a pandemic-related hiatus in 2020, the team at Stone & Wood linked up with The Common Good to concoct a strawberry-infused sip to help raise funds for life-changing medical research. Needless to say, the craft-beer collab was a hit, with the brilliantly pink-hued brew selling out in a snap (and again in 2021).

The beer is back again for 2022, with Stone & Wood Brisbane’s head brewer Mick Barnes whipping up a fresh batch of the Ekka-inspired beer for the return of the big show on Saturday August 6. For those yet to sample this dreamy dessert-like drink, the Strawberry Sundae Kisses is a traditional Berliner Weisse style beer that is brewed with 60 kg of fresh strawberries, lactose and vanilla – a mixture that create a creamy beverage boasting a strawberry-led bomb of flavour. Fancy trying this super-special sip? The Strawberry Sundae Kisses batch is not only being sold at the Ekka, but also at Stone & Wood’s Fortitude Valley brewery from Thursday August 4. All proceeds from this collab will go to The Common Good’s work at The Prince Charles Hospital.
