If you’ve strolled through The Valley and spied some action going down inside the old X Cargo site, you’re not seeing things. On Saturday June 11, the tropical-garden inspired revelry hub (built from crisp-white shipping containers) is now known as Summa House – a concept that’s all about making the most out of Brisbane’s clear blue skies and sensational starry nights. The venue, which boasts a spacious beer garden boasting twinkling festoon lights, a collection of elevated terraces offering great views across the venue or out over Fortitude Valley, a number of bars and a large kitchen, is perfectly suited to hosting hundreds on a heaving Friday or Saturday night, as well as all sorts of celebrations and private events (Summa House as 14 different event spaces).
In addition to looking like a summertime wonderland, Summa House is also set to deliver the tastes best associated with the warmer months. While the menu follows along the lines of classic pub gastronomy, you’ll notice some distinct inflections geared towards taking tastebuds on a summer holiday. We’re talking tempura prawn buns, Texan-style barbecue corn ribs, Mediterranean salads, beer-battered and pan-fried barramundi, and herb-crusted lamb cutlets, all sharing menu space with an assortment of burgers, chicken schnitzels, rump steaks and more. Summa House’s bars are also dispensing tropical-themed concoctions, including share jugs to split amongst your going-out group. Speaking of which, if your crew loves a brunch, then they’ll likely get a kick out of Summa House’s POW WOW brunch. Every Saturday and Sunday between 12:00–3:00 pm, groups of four or more can sit down for a two-hour bottomless feast, featuring tapas-style bites like duck spring rolls, caramelised scallops and betel leaves, mushroom arancini and tempura cauliflower bites, plus flowing beer, wine and cocktail jugs.
