Steins at the ready – The Bavarian opens its brand-new beer hall at The Barracks

From Brisbane City and Chermside to Broadbeach, Maroochydoore and Toowoomba, The Bavarian brand has become synonymous with cheerful, casual and comprehensive hospitality. Potentially the most beloved concept in Rockpool Dining Group's thriving portfolio, The Bavarian has blossomed from a quirky one-off Bavarian-themed beer bar into a juggernaut of steins, schnitzels and sausages. Petrie Terrace is the latest suburb to snag a beer hall of its own, with The Bavarian opening at The Barracks today, Friday August 2.

If there’s any way to make a great first impression, it’s with free food. The Bavarian is celebrating the opening of its brand-new location at The Barracks today by treating its neighbours to a smorgasbord of free hotdogs. Beyond the free snags, the latest opening from Rockpool Dining Group is bringing some of its signature European appeal to Caxton Street, offering something for sports-mad fanatics, moviegoers, family units and weekend revellers. The Bavarian has overhauled the space that once housed Hog’s Breath Cafe, transforming the building from rustic Australian steakhouse into a leafy and lively European beer hall. The two-storey venue boasts an incredible capacity – 600 guests (including a 300-seat outdoor beer garden) means there’s plenty of room to swing a stein around. A comfortable-yet-modern feel (one common across all The Bavarian locations) has been implemented – think stone walls, alpine timber finishes, communal wood tables, lots of greenery, warm light fixtures and eye-catching artwork. There’s a versatility to the bar and eatery as well, with guests able to watch the world go by from the semi-covered deck, enjoy a pre-game feed under the fairy light-draped trees in the outdoor beer garden, host a private function upstairs or catch a sporting fixture on one of the venue’s 12 large-screen TVs.

The Bavarian at The Barracks is serving up the same sizeable feasts that have become part and parcel with the brand’s identity. That means the best of Bavaria is on offer, from giant pretzels to crackling pork belly. If you’ve yet to experience The Bavarian properly, our best advice is to come hungry. The menu is bursting at the seams with nine kinds of schnitzel, six kinds of sausage, eight mains (think pork knuckle, spice-rubbed tri-tip steak and curried vegetable and lentil pies), nine types of starters, build-your-own salads and enormous platters for group feasting. Of course, any beer hall should really be judged on the quality of its beers, which is where The Bavarian shines. The bar boasts an impressive range of brews with 20 on tap, including European biers Hofbräu, Spaten, Paulaner, Franziskaner and Löwenbräu, plus Australian drops from 4 Pines Brewing, Pirate Life, Pure Blonde and Yak Ales. Not a beer drinker? Not a problem – the bar serves up plenty more quaffing material. One last hot tip – The Bavarian’s various food specials are worth making a note of. Complimentary snacks between 4:00–6:00 pm daily? Yes please!

Hungry? We are too. The Bavarian is now open at The Barracks. Free hotdogs are being given out from 11:00 am, so act quick if you want one! Head to the Stumble Guide for more information.
