Get crafty at brew-tiful northside newcomers The Bavarian and Tapworks Bar & Grill

With all the hubbub surrounding last week’s launch of Westfield Chermside’s new food precinct, it can be hard to keep track of all the new arrivals calling the north side home. We don’t mean to make the task even harder, but the foodie fun hasn’t stopped – far from it. The Bavarian has turned on the taps at its new Chermside home, and alongside craft-beer specialists Tapworks Bar & Grill is making Westfield Chermside a veritable tipple paradise. The best way to refuel between shopping sprees is by blowing the froth off a cold one, and now you have two spots to do so in style.

If your head was left spinning after hearing about all the eateries lining Westfield Chermside’s new food precinct, you might want to sit down for this bit of news. The Bavarian is a new contemporary bar from the team behind Eagle Street’s Bavarian Bier Cafe, which is bringing a fast-service approach to Germanic hospitality. Boasting a beer garden that spills out into the tropical-style dining precinct, a huge bar and big-screen televisions, The Bavarian could very well become your home away from home. First thing’s first – let’s talk about the beer selection. The Bavarian treats every day like Oktoberfest, pouring 17 beers off tap from the likes of Lowenbrau, Stiegl, Paulaner, and Franziskaner, as well as a range of craft beverages from Urban Craft Brewing Co. Bottled beers, two-litre beer tubes, spirits, wines and cocktails are also available if your arms are tired from lifting steins. When it comes to serving up the best authentic Bavarian bites, these folks know what’s up. The Bavarian’s kitchen serves the full range of all-star classics including crispy pork knuckle, crackling pork belly, sizzling sausages and stellar schnitzels, as well as a range of hotdogs, spiced-rubbed barbecue ribs, build-your-own salads, burgers, chicken wings, apple strudel and more.

Further cementing Westfield Chermside’s reputation as the new home of craft beer is the arrival of Tapworks Bar & Grill. This venue serves the golden nectar in style, with a venue boasting eye-catching brass fixtures, contemporary furnishings and a plenty of room to move. The approach to beer at Tapworks is nearly unparalleled – offering a comprehensive experience for newcomers and craft-beer veterans. Thirty taps showcase a rotating selection of drops, with three categories helping make your choice as easy as possible. Drinkers can choose from beers they already know and love, beers that are worth knowing, and beers for the adventurous drinkers. Each bar on offer has been researched thoroughly, and you aren’t likely to find as knowledgeable staff anywhere else. If you need a nibble with your beverage of choice, the kitchen whips up some seriously good drinking food including mac and cheese squares, crispy polenta bites, pulled-pork loaded fries, chilli nachos, pork finger ribs, hot dogs, burgers, and a mouth-watering range of char-grilled steaks.
