Toasties with the mosties – The Traveller Toast and Tap hits Brisbane streets

Street-food fanatics, take note. There’s a new face on the scene, and it’s packing a heady dose of nostalgia into its fare. The Traveller Toast and Tap is a unique mobile dispensary of home-style jaffles and home-brewed beverages, evoking tastes from our childhood and pairing it with a refreshing non-alcoholic spin on our favourite drinks.

Sea changes come in many shapes and forms – most of the time it just means a change in job or lifestyle. For Rob Munster, decades of work in the printing and design industry had taken its toll, and a desire for a change of pace and a different work-life balance became a priority. An avid home brewer, Rob and his wife Hannah toyed around with the idea of opening a bricks-and-mortar bar and brewery, but as new entrants to the world of hospitality decided to start smaller. Thus, The Traveller Toast and Tap was born – a family-operated food trailer that launched last weekend to great success.

When it comes to the eats, The Traveller Toast and Tap keeps it simple and satisfying with a choice of scrumptious home-style jaffles with several ingredients sourced from their own suburban farm. Hannah has taken the lead with the cooking, honing in on quintessentially Australian flavour combinations from her childhood, stirring up some serious nostalgia. Choices include the classic ham, cheese and tomato jaffle, spaghetti and cheese (featuring Hannah’s homemade sauce), savoury mince, slow-cooked beer-baked chicken (using some fine brew from Helios Brewing Company) and a sensational smoked brisket jaffle, doused in hickory barbecue sauce and served with Colby cheese. Rob has also refined his recipe for ginger beer to create a refreshing non-alcoholic version, but patrons can also opt for soft drinks like lemon, lime and bitters, or Portello made from natural ingredients.
