Newstead Brewing Co. collabs with Brisbane Powerhouse to create Transducer beer

It’s been half a century since trams rolled through Brisbane’s streets, but a fortuitous collaboration of local icons has now resulted in a new beer tipping its frothy little cap to the old rail vehicles.

Newstead Brewing Co. and Brisbane Powerhouse have celebrated their new partnership with the launch of the Transducer – a 4.9 percent sparkling ale made from local ingredients including tropical hops, delicate yeast esters and a pale malt base. The latest addition to Newstead’s craft beer range is a modern twist on the Aussie classic and is already earning accolades, having bagged a silver medal at the Royal Queensland Food & Wine Show awards last month.

The brew pays homage to a special chapter in Brisbane’s history, when trams carried residents through the streets and Brisbane Powerhouse literally powered the local tram network. The Transducer can’s vivid artwork symbolises the tram lines and the graffiti that covered the Powerhouse in its dormant days before it was transformed into an arts and cultural hub, while the ‘sparking’ in Sparking Ale is a subtle nod to its electric origins. The Transducer is available now at Brisbane Powerhouse, Newstead Brewing Co., online and from all good beer retailers throughout South-East Queensland.
