Gold Coast label Wine Not the Brand is here to challenge perceptions of wine in a bag

Let's not beat around the bush, when you think of wine in a bag, it's pretty likely your mind immediately pictures a bloated silver goon sack that may or may not be strung up from a clothesline. Gold Coast-based start-up Wine Not the Brand is here to challenge the stigma associated with wine in a bag with its revolutionary and vegan-friendly wine pouches. A lightweight, durable, and perhaps most importantly, quality solution to traditional bottles of wine.

Whether you’re rolling out a rug by the beach, setting sail for the day on a boat or lazing by the pool, there are some instances where a glass bottle is just not ideal. And don’t even get us started on that annoying spill factor. Designed with the Gold Coast lifestyle in mind, Wine Not the Brand’s convenient 250-ml wine pouches are purposefully and mindfully created for on-the-go sipping. Boat friendly, picnic-perfect and poolside approved, the wine pouches are the brainchild of Gold Coast local and self-confessed sun seeker Kata Cser after she sacrificed one too many wines to uneven ground. The savvy millenial decided then and there that there had to be a better way and began creating a fuss-free, easy and convenient option that could be thrown in a cooler bag ready for outdoor adventures.

Fast-forward a few years and a few hundred taste tests (tough job but someone’s got to do it) and the first batch of Wine Not the Brand’s portable wine pouches are ready for sipping. Kata eventually settled on an easy-to-drink semi-dry rosé from the Granite Belt alongside a semi-sweet, alcohol-removed rosé produced in New South Wales, which is perfect for those times you’re keen to go booze-free but don’t necessarily feel like a soft drink. Incredibly, the pouches have reduced the packaging weight of wine by 94 percent, therefore requiring less fuel and space for transport, less energy and water usage in production, less greenhouse gas emissions, and ultimately less material in landfill – so it’s better for the environment, too! When the brand’s first prototype pouches launched last year, the entire collection sold out, twice, in just 24-hours. Wine Not the Brand’s wine pouches will officially launch to market on April 4. If you’re keen to get sipping, keep an eye on Wine Not the Brand’s website.
