Ze Pickle celebrates the opening of its Camp Hill store with a mouth-watering new menu

If you truly love burgers, then you already know about Ze Pickle. Well OK smarty pants, before you go dismissing the rest of this article because you are a burger know-it-all, slow down and hear us out. Because not only does Ze Pickle have a new store for you to get excited about, it's got a brand-new drool-worthy menu as well. If the idea of deep-fried Babybel cheese and five-cheese macaroni patties get you jazzed, we suggest you keep reading.

The rundown
For those of you who aren’t so well versed in the language of le burg, allow us to give you a quick rundown on Ze Pickle. The burger joint is the brainchild of Gold Coast lads Aaron, Nathan and JD, who opened the first Ze Pickle in Burleigh Heads in late 2012. Since then they’ve spread the bun love to Sydney’s Surry Hills, here in Fortitude Valley and via badass food truck Ze Qickle, and today, Thursday August 31, marks the opening of their second franchise, firing up the grills in the heart of Camp Hill.

The space
Ze Pickle Camp Hill has joined the leafy Martha Street Village, sitting across the road from the recently opened Martha Street Kitchen. The space is small, but the boys have completely transformed it from its previous life as a fish and chip shop. Original 1920s Sydney builders bricks were smashed and laid roughly up the walls to create an old-world feel, further achieved by a wash of aged black paint. Warm bulbs illuminate the bar and dining area, encased in hand-blown contoured-glass pendants from New Zealand design studio Søktas. The solid blackbutt timber bar is the handiwork of Gold Coast’s Good Wood Supply Co, and the custom-motorcycle creators at PopBang constructed the impressive steel back bar, which sees spirit bottles moving across the bar via swivelling arms.

The food and drink
Now for the really fun part – the menu. Ze Pickle is well known for its outrageous stacks, with favourites including the 3am (pressed wagyu beef patty, maple bacon, fried cheese sticks, guac and ZP sauce) and the Doughnutfukwitdis (wagyu beef patty, Nutella smoked bacon and double Jack cheese pressed between two grilled Doughnut Time glazed doughnuts), all of which you will find on the Camp Hill menu, alongside ZP’s famous sides and desserts. The launch of the new store, however, also sees the launch of a bunch of new menu items across all stores, which you can wrap your mitts around as of today. Fried Babybel cheese wheels are going to be a surefire hit to start (come to mama), followed by the new vegetarian Mac Burger Pro, packed with a jalapeno and five-cheese fried macaroni patty, slaw and corn chips. The ZP guys have expanded beyond burgers too, introducing the crispy Buffalo Chicken Sub topped with buffalo hot sauce, blue-cheese dressing, maple bacon and mozzarella, the Reubano (mmm … sauerkraut and cherry wood-smoked pastrami), and the Hot Hot Dog, filled with an oak wood-smoked jalapeno and cheddar beef dog, IPA beer cheese sauce, maple-smoked bacon and ZP sauce. Three new cocktails (or dicktails, as ZP fondly calls them) have also been added, the Gingerita, a gingery, cinnamon-y take on a margarita, the Salted Caramel Espresso Martini, and the Schmoked Bacon Ol Fashioned, garnished with stout-smoked bacon. Twelve rotating beers are on tap from a bunch of local breweries, alongside a selection of wine and spirits.
