Aiyope is the brainchild of Queensland natives Patrick and Samantha, a duo who discovered a mutual affinity for the highly skilled, varied and strong tradition of Indian craftsmanship when on university exchange in New Delhi back in 2011. From this trip, they conceived the idea of the Good Practice Studio – a multidisciplinary design studio that would fuse these traditional Indian ideals with contemporary Australian design principles to create something completely unique. When the studio came to life in 2016 so too did Aiyope, the studio label. The brand, which is based both in Brisbane and New Delhi, takes inspiration from various Indian crafts, cultures, traditions and people to create its contemporary clothing, furniture and homewares.

For Aiyope’s spring/summer 2018 collection, the brand has been working with Auroville-based natural dyers Colours of Nature to create a stunning palette based around rubia, myrobolan and indigo dyes. This partnership was a natural fit for Aiyope, as Colours of Nature is almost 100-percent sustainable in its approach – meaning the often devastating environmental impact of the dyeing industry has been drastically reduced. For production, Aiyope has worked with an independent pattern master close to the brand’s Delhi studio to create clean and classic cuts with a twist. Organic cotton and denim feature throughout the collection, which is made up of a tie-up jumpsuit, an effortless slip dress, a rad oversized embroidered button-up, breezy shorts, a genius reversible shift dress and more.
