Boost your hobby game with an interactive ClassBento workshop

If your small talk is limited to weather patterns and TV series, it’s time to upgrade your extra-curricular chat with some new leisure pursuits – and reduce stress and boost mental wellbeing while you’re at it.

Thousands of punters in cities across Australia are connecting with local artisans to learn new skills, prevent burnout and meet new mates via ClassBento. Launched by former THE ICONIC workmates John Tabari and Iain Wang, the workshop hub aims to encourage people of all ages and skill levels to put down their phones, get off the couch and enjoy the present moment while mastering a new hobby. Classes range from terrarium crafting to pizza making to painting your beloved pet (while sipping on wine), and navigate a wide array of categories including art, craft, cookery, pottery and photography. Rock up solo to meet new mates, use it as a bonding activity with your partner or bring the crew for a hen’s party, birthday or corporate event.

Classes can accommodate a wide range of skill levels, schedules and budgets in the hope of making the arts accessible to everyone, while also supporting local makers and small businesses. Sizes range from one-on-one right up to 30 people, and all operate in a relaxed and welcoming environment without ego or pretense. Each generally runs for a few hours on a weekend or evening, giving you a taste of the new pursuit without demanding too much time or commitment. Simply browse by subject, date or location and you could be cooking dumplings, crafting soaps, painting silk scarves or screen-printing next weekend. Check out Brisbane’s workshop offerings here.
