Can’t slow down – Fast Times brings a slice of true skate culture to The City

Any skating die-hard would no doubt be familiar with Fast Times, the Melbourne-based skate shop that has been a go-to for the best gear since 2008. From the hardware to the threads, this cult favourite is a destination for both the skating community and appreciators of the lifestyle alike, creating a dedicated following all around the country. Well you don’t have to trek down south or be restricted to the online shopping experience any longer – Fast Times has opened its first bricks-and-mortar Brisbane store right in the heart of The City and it certainly doesn’t disappoint.

When it comes to the product offering, you can tell that Fast Times walks the talk. The large retail space boasts a board wall with more than 250 boards on display, as well as more available throughout the shop. There is a giant hat wall where you will find everything from sports teams to boutique skate labels. Core brands like Independent, HUF, Spitfire and Chocolate are joined by boutique names like Dime, Bronze, 917, Alltimers and more, as well as a strong showing of local and independent companies such as Passport, 138 Skateboards and Buttergoods. Those who aren’t overly familiar with skating are still welcomed with open arms, with brands like Brixton, Carhartt and Patagonia providing more of a straight streetwear aesthetic.

You definitely couldn’t accuse Fast Times of being in it for the trend – everything on offer from the company has been carefully considered to provide a full spectrum of the skate world. As well as retail, the space is utilised as a meeting point for Brisbane’s thriving skate community. The store plays host to video premieres and professional team tours with in-house signings, which are made all the more fun with the store’s pool table (hello) and beer taps (g’day) pouring local kegs for the occasion. Staff also organise events like barbecues and demos at local skate parks, promoting the Fast Times values of fostering skate culture and lifestyle beyond the walls of the store.
