Five simple ways to transform your bathroom into your happy place

Controversial opinion – the bathroom is the most important room in the house. It’s the place where we get ready for some of life’s biggest moments … and when haven’t our showers been there for us after a long, hard day? Unfortunately we don’t always treat our bathrooms with the TLC they deserve and renovations take up a lot of time and money. Our friends at Spotlight get this. While you might think of it as your crafternoon destination, it’s also the perfect spot to find everything you need for a mini bathroom makeover. Here's five tips to get you started.

Clean up your act
Look, we may have all taken the Marie Kondo-ing a bit too far in 2019, but that doesn’t mean we should stop decluttering altogether. If you can’t decide what toiletries bring you joy, a clean, spacious bathroom is easy to achieve with storage solutions. We recommend starting with the basics – a shower caddy, a towel rack and a laundry basket – it’s all uphill from there.

Add soft touches
When was the last time you changed your bath mat? Actually, don’t answer that. Instead, look to Spotlight’s range of towels to refresh your bathroom. Nothing says “I have my life together” like a matching bath mat, bath towel and hand towel set.

Take time to reflect
At some point in time, all of the architects got together and decided to make bathrooms the smallest space in the house – rude. Adding some extra mirrors is a simple way to make your space feel more open. A vanity mirror is great for make-up application, while an in-shower mirror is ideal for shaving.

Green is good
Those architects we mentioned weren’t so generous with the natural light in bathrooms either. What’s a plant lover to do? While your nursery finds won’t necessarily thrive, artificial plants add low-maintenance greenery to your bathroom, bringing instant life to even the most drab tiled space. May we suggest an elegant hanging plant for the shower?

Shut it all out
Bathrooms should be a sanctuary away from the outside world. If you feel like a little time all to yourself, window coverings help. Swap out frumpy curtains for something more modern like shutters or venetians to enjoy your privacy in style.

These tips have been put together in conjunction with our friends at Spotlight.
