Good Vibes Guaranteed: Volume 01 March 31

We're going through a pretty crazy time together, friends. We've all had to adapt and make some serious changes to navigate this new world, The Weekend Edition included. You will have noticed that our usual content has shifted, but our commitment to keeping you informed with our mantra of positive media remains. The Weekend Edition is providing you with up-to-date information relating to the coronavirus crisis, breaking down news and announcements in a digestible format to help ease the stress and confusion for our community. What we're also here to do is provide you with some positive relief, some hope and some kindness in the time of coronavirus. Introducing Good Vibes Guaranteed – your weekly dose of feel-good stories and positivity, every Tuesday morning.

Good Vibe #1: Jonathan Van Ness’ workout videos
Who exudes good vibes more than Jonathan Van Ness?! Great news to keep you motivated and moving while you’re self isolating at home – Queer Eye’s heavenly hair and self-care expert has a series of workout videos on the free FitOn fitness app. Positive energy exudes from JVN (not to mention his glorious hair and beard) as he leads yoga, stretch, dance classes and more – you can’t help but feel incredible. If fitness apps aren’t your jam and you’re just here for a good time, head to JVN’s Instagram Stories. He starts each morning of quarantine with a pre-coffee dance off to get you up and going – it’s no fuss, it’s usually in his kitchen, there’s often a cat cuddle and a couple of high kicks as he boogies to a soundtrack of guilty pop pleasures.

Good Vibe #2: All AWLQ animals have been adopted
In light of the coronavirus crisis, Animal Welfare League Queensland realised that it would have to eventually close its Animal Rehoming Centres to visitors. To proactively address this, the AWLQ held an adoption sale, yesterday announcing that every single animal had been adopted, allowing the organisation to temporarily shutter all of its Rehoming Centres. The sale saw 138 animals find loving new homes, as well as a further 473 animals cared for by foster carers. Head to the AWLQ Facebook page for more updates!

Good Vibe #3: The pandemic is leading to a significant drop in air pollution
If there is one major positive from this global pandemic, it’s that the world has been forced to just stop and slow right down. That means less cars on the road, less planes in the air, less factories churning out smoke, naturally equating to less nitrogen dioxide. A report by The Guardian refers to satellite imagery from the European Space Agency, which shows that over the past six weeks, “levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) over cities and industrial clusters in Asia and Europe were markedly lower than in the same period last year”. Good Vibe #4: The iHeartRadio Living Room Concert For America
A whole lot of shows, awards and festivals have been cancelled or postponed due to the coronavirus crisis, including the iHeartRadio Music Awards. In classic ‘the show must go on’ energy, the awards were swapped out on the evening of Sunday March 29 (American time) for The iHeartRadio Living Room Concert For America, an hour-long special filmed live from celebrities homes as a tribute to US medical workers. Hosted by Elton John, the concert included appearances and performances from the likes of Mariah Carey, Billie Eilish, The Backstreet Boys, Lizzo, Dave Grohl and more. The event was broadcasted commercial free and encouraged viewers to donate to the First Responders Children’s Foundation and Feeding America. You can watch the stream on YouTube here.

Good Vibe #5: Feed a frontline worker
We know that our incredible heathcare staff are currently working around the clock in an effort to keep people safe and combat COVID-19. While these people are run off their feet, our hospitality industry is suffering – and both need our help. A new initiative from Brisbane cooking-class instructor Fleur Sharpe called Feed the Frontline looks to offer assistance to both industries – seeing some of Brisbane’s best restaurants deliver meals to nurses, doctors and medical professionals. By visiting the Feed the Frontline GoFundMe page, you can donate to the initiative, which will not only send a meal to a frontline worker, but also help to keep a restaurant open. A win-win! Participating restaurants include e’cco bistro, The Wolfe, The Spaghetti House Trattoria and more. We’ll have the full story for you later today!
