This British-turned-Melbourne couple know a thing or two about keeping warm, so take their cues and snuggle up in cute cropped sweat tops and merino wool knits this winter.

The cool snaps have arrived, meaning we can finally embrace our autumn/winter ensembles and plump up the wardrobe with a little something Handsom. Think 100% pure merino wool, thick cotton fleece French terry fabric and a heck of a lot of style. Hansom’s range is punctuated with cosy gems such as high-waisted, cropped pants cut from textured Hachiko linen-cotton fabric, raw 12 oz cotton-denim jumpsuits and unlined woollen overcoats with raglan sleeves for the girls, while the guys are kitted out in classic saddle-neck knits, long-sleeve button-down shirts in premium striped Japanese cotton and straight-cut denim overshirts. A recent collaboration with Melbourne-based collage artist MO saw a drop of limited-edition pieces such as sweat tops and denim zip jackets featuring quirky embroidered appliqué motifs from the artist’s The Visitors series.

Henry Allum and Sam Rush – the talented design duo behind Handsom – ensure that every step of the label’s manufacturing process is ethical, from salvaging deadstock and end-of-roll fabrics, to using organic and sustainable fabrics where possible, applying non-toxic dyes and eco-friendly printing techniques, engaging small family owned and operated factories that follow ethical practices, and shipping garments in recyclable packaging. Knitwear is made from pure merino wool and/or wool-cashmere blends sourced from sustainable farmers in Australia, New Zealand and Mongolia. Animal welfare is a core value for Handsom, who ensure that animal fibres are responsibly harvested by clipping, shearing and natural shedding. Next time you’re in Melbourne, pop into the design studio and showroom HQ, but in the meantime fill your virtual shopping bag with goodies from their online store.
